Hundreds of people mobilized to reinforce the Giang River dike in Thanh Chuong
(Baonghean.vn) - Faced with the risk of flood water overflowing the Giang River dike, Thanh Chuong district mobilized hundreds of people to use earth bags to reinforce it in time.
On the morning of September 30, in Lien Khai hamlet, Thanh Lien commune (Thanh Chuong), hundreds of people including officers and soldiers of the District Military Command, militia and self-defense forces and local people urgently used earth bags to reinforce the dike.Giang River.
According to Nghe An Newspaper reporters present at the scene, the Giang River water is rising, flooding residential areas at dike points that have not been upgraded.
Mr. Phan Ba Ngoc - Party Secretary, Chairman of Thanh Lien Commune People's Committee said: On the afternoon of September 29, facing the risk of river water overflowing the residential area, the commune mobilized human resources to reinforce 120m of the dike; however, this morning, the water continued to rise, causing some sections of the dike to overflow. Therefore, the People's CommitteeThanh Chuong districtmobilized additional forces from the District Military Command to help the people, using sacks of soil to reinforce the dike. With this on-site force, by the morning of September 30, the entire 170m dike section will be reinforced and safety ensured.
"If the Giang River overflows this dike, it will flood 520 households in the commune. Therefore, the locality will continue to monitor and mobilize to reinforce the dike when necessary, to prevent water from overflowing into residential areas," Mr. Phan Ba Ngoc added.
