JICA Japan introduces anti-flooding solutions for Vinh city
(Baonghean.vn) - On March 1, 2022, co-chaired by the Ministry of MLIT, the Department of Technical Infrastructure of the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam organized a technical workshop on JAPANESE URBAN FLOOD REDUCTION TECHNOLOGY - APPLICATION OF MANHOLE PUMPING SYSTEM IN VIETNAM" within the framework of the WOW TO JAPAN project.
In addition to the host units, the workshop also included representatives from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Osaka City, Kanagawa City, Japan, and departments, branches, and sectors in Nghe An province and across the country. The content of the seminar includes presentations on Japan's urban flood prevention experiences and solutions presented by Japanese experts. Japan is located in one of the rainiest regions in the world. The average annual rainfall is twice the global average, however, flooding in large cities such as Tokyo is very rare. This is thanks to the construction of emergency drainage systems and the application of scientific advances in flood prevention.

After the sideJapanIn her welcoming remarks, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Huong - Director of the Department of Technical Infrastructure of the Ministry of Construction of Vietnam said that urban flooding is a pressing issue in Vietnam, affirming the importance of reducing urban flooding. The purpose of the workshop is to introduce scientific and technical advances that have been effectively applied in the world to Vinh city, a young developing city located in an area of strong climate change.
Thanking the attention of the Japanese MLIT Ministry and the Ministry of Construction, Mr. Le Sy Chien - Vice Chairman of Vinh City People's Committee also said that for Vinh city, an urban area identified as the economic and cultural center of the North Central region, the city has for many years always received the attention and support of JICA, ministries, departments and branches in the issue of urban infrastructure investment and construction of Vinh city to be more and more spacious and modern.

At the workshop, Japanese JICA experts presented and introduced the “Flood Buster” sluice gate pumping system and applied the sluice gate pumping system in some areas in Vinh city such as Vinh market and Hung Hoa.
Through research, we learned that this is a special, new generation sluice gate pump called Flood Buster, patented by Ishigaki Japan. The advantage of this pump line is an integrated equipment system, easy to install, can take advantage of existing water lines and sluice gates to install the pump, no need to reclaim land and short construction time.

In addition, the pump has many outstanding features specifically mentioned in the "Sluice gate pump technical manual" that the company has worked hard to build.
The sluice gate pumping system consists of the trash screening machine, lifting device, drive unit, gate, horizontal shaft submersible pump. The advantages of the pump are that it is inexpensive, does not take up space, has a short construction time, is easy to operate, and can be applied to many types of channels. In particular, drainage in areas requiring land acquisition is quite difficult to build pumping stations and expand inlet channels, and areas that need to strengthen control of low stormwater flow.
The pump's operating mechanism is to operate a mixture of air and water, operating in standby mode. In case there is not much water, the machine will switch to standby mode to operate. When operating in mixed water mode, it is possible to invest in a pipeline system.

In the afternoon of the same day, a demonstration of sewer pumping technology took place atWastewater treatment plantHoa Xuan (Vinh City).
It is known that, in the face of the increasingly serious global climate change situation, the Japanese Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT), within the framework of strengthening cooperation with the Vietnamese Ministry of Construction, has agreed to support the WOW TO JAPAN project for Vinh city, Nghe An province.
The project aims to survey and analyze the drainage situation in Vinh city and flood response mechanisms through the application of hard solutions to minimize urban flooding.
