(Baonghean.vn) - Just because he thought his wife was having an affair with Mr. H. Nguyen Dinh Tuong (Nghia Dan) used a motorbike to chase Mr. H, used a hammer to hit the victim hard in the head causing him to fall down, then hit him 3 times in the head causing the victim to die shortly after.

On October 22, 2020, the High People's Court in Hanoi opened an appeal hearing in Nghe An to try the case."killing"against Nguyen Dinh Tuong (born in 1974; residing in Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district). The victim was Mr. H - the owner of the business where Tuong's wife worked.

According to the indictment: At about 2:50 p.m. on October 6, 2019, Tuong was riding a motorbike on National Highway 48E in Nghia Dan town when he saw Mr. HMH (born in 1972, residing in Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district) going in the opposite direction.

Suspecting that Mr. H. had an illicit relationship with his wife, Ms. NTM (Mr. H.'s employee - PV), Tuong went to get the hammer he had hidden earlier to beat him. After getting the hammer, Tuong turned his car around and chased after Mr. H. When he caught up, Tuong used the hammer to attack Mr. H. in the back of the head, causing the victim to fall onto the street. Mr. H. was taken to the hospital by people for emergency treatment but died later.

The defendant admitted that at the time of the crime, he and his wife had been separated for 1.5 years, but because he was angry because he suspected his wife of having an "impure" relationship, he committed the heartbreaking incident.

At the first instance trial, the panel sentenced defendant Nguyen Dinh Tuong to life in prison for murder. In terms of civil matters, the court ordered the defendant to compensate the victim’s family 194 million VND, provide monthly support of 1.5 million VND for the victim’s daughter until she becomes an adult, and provide monthly support of 500,000 VND for the victim’s mother.

After the first instance verdict, the defendant appealed the above sentence because he believed that as the only son in the family; before, during and after committing the crime, the defendant wasmood disorder(emotional) at a mild level so a life sentence is not correct.

During the trial, the defendant failed to provide new details to consider mitigating the sentence as prescribed. Therefore, the panel of judges rejected the appeal and upheld the life sentence for defendant Nguyen Dinh Tuong.
