On September 24, Son borrowed his brother-in-law’s car, brought two one-meter-long swords, and went to look for a girl to resolve a conflict. Unable to find her, Son discovered her sister’s yellow Audi, so he took two swords and slashed the windshield and mirror.

At around 8:30 a.m. on October 1, Vinh City Police executed an emergency detention order approved by the People's Procuracy of the same level against Le Ngoc Son for investigation in connection with a case of intentional property damage.

However, Le Ngoc Son did not comply, resisted the authorities and then barricaded himself in house number 128, Hong Bang street, Le Mao ward (Vinh city) with firearms. Nghe An provincial police and Vinh city police mobilized hundreds of police officers equipped with weapons and police dogs to block off Hong Bang street, Vinh city to arrest Son.

Meanwhile, Le Ngoc Son continued to hold grenades in his house. During this time, he also repeatedly challenged the police on Facebook. During the process of persuading him, his girlfriend, father, siblings, and friends were also brought in to persuade him to surrender, but to no avail.

At 11:40 p.m. the same day, realizing that Le Ngoc Son was tired and had a positive change in his ideology, the provincial police leaders sent Captain Pham Van Hoi - Captain of the Mobile Police Company (PK20) to gradually approach and persuade him.

Authorities determined that several years ago, Le Ngoc Son led a trafficking ring that transported a large amount of heroin and synthetic drugs from Laos to Nghe An, then to the southern provinces for consumption. When the police began investigating, Son fled abroad and has only recently returned.
