Man suspected of holding grenade, barricading himself in, writes challenging status on Facebook
(Baonghean.vn) - Despite the heavy rain, many curious people still gathered along Hong Bang Street to watch the authorities arrest the suspect. The Facebook account believed to belong to this suspect still posted a status with a defiant attitude.
The two defendants Nguyen Quang Bich (born in 1986, from Nghe An) and Do Quang Thanh (born in 1976, residing in Hanoi) were prosecuted for two crimes of "Illegal trading and possession of narcotics".
Defendant Tran Duy Tuong (born in 1984, residing in Hanoi) was prosecuted for "Illegal transportation of drugs", Le Doan An (born in 1985, residing in Ha Tinh) was prosecuted for "Failure to report a crime".
According to the investigation agency’s documents, from June to July 25, 2017, Son, Luc, Bich, Thom, Phuoc, and Thanh illegally bought and sold drugs three times. Le Doan An knew clearly about Son and Luc’s crime the first time but did not report the crime to the authorities.
Specifically, the first time in June 2017, under the direction of Le Ngoc Son, Luc assigned Bich and Phuoc to go to Hanoi to receive 9,591.025 grams of crystal meth to transport to Ho Chi Minh City to sell to a customer. Bich would be paid 10 million VND/1 kg of drugs.
An went with Son to Luc's house to witness the drug testing, knowing that these people were illegally buying and selling drugs but did not report the crime to the authorities.

The second time, in early July 2017, Son assigned Bich and Phuoc to receive 10 packages of drugs weighing 9,591.025 grams from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City to sell for 3.4 billion VND. Son gave Bich and Phuoc 100 million VND.
The third time, on July 25, 2017, under Son's direction, Bich and Phuoc went to Hanoi to receive 9,591.025 grams of drugs to sell in Ho Chi Minh City for profit. Bich sold 2 packages of drugs weighing 1,918.205 grams to Do Quang Thanh for 700 million VND. Bich "disguised" them in 8 Ensure milk cartons and gave them to Phuoc to transport by bus to Ho Chi Minh City. Bich paid Phuoc 80 million VND for the fee.
At 4:00 a.m. on July 26, 2017, when Phuoc was transporting 8 kg of drugs hidden in a milk carton on a passenger bus from Hanoi to Ho Chi Minh City, he was discovered and caught red-handed by Nghe An police on National Highway 1A, passing through Nghi Long commune (Nghi Loc).
Based on Phuoc’s testimony, on July 27, Nghe An Provincial Police arrested Nguyen Quang Bich. During an urgent search of Bich’s residence in Tan Phu Ward, District 9, Ho Chi Minh City, the authorities seized more than 6 grams of synthetic drugs.
During the investigation, Nguyen Quang Bich confessed that on July 25, 2017, he sold Do Quang Thanh 1 heroin cake for 200 million VND. This time, Tran Duy Tuong was the one who received the drugs for Thanh. Searching Thanh's residence, the police seized more than 1 gram of drugs.
The investigation agency determined that the three defendants Le Ngoc Son, Nguyen Quang Bich, and Mai Dinh Phuoc, each defendant must bear criminal responsibility for buying and selling drugs three times with a total volume of 27,773.075 grams of drugs.
The two defendants Luc and Thom must bear criminal responsibility for the act of illegally buying and selling drugs with a mass of 9,591.025 grams.
In this case, Le Ngoc Son is considered the ringleader. After Bich was arrested, Son fled abroad. In mid-2018, Son returned to Vietnam, committed a property destruction case and was summoned by Vinh City Police. When the police came to Son's house to execute the arrest warrant, the subject held mines and gas cylinders and barricaded himself in the house for 14 hours.
Le Ngoc Son was then sentenced to 45 months in prison for the crimes of "Intentionally damaging property", "Illegal possession of military weapons" and "Resisting a person on official duty".
In court, the defendants admitted their crimes. Facing the death penalty, the defendants Luc, Bich, Son, and Phuoc begged for a chance to live.
After one day of trial, the panel of judges decided to extend the deliberation of the case, finding that there were many details that needed to be carefully considered. The court will announce the verdict on the afternoon of August 10.
