The feasibility of the project to promote commercial cattle farming in Thanh Chuong

(Baonghean.vn) - Thanh Chuong District People's Committee has just developed a Project "Developing some livestock associated with brand building and product consumption in the period of 2016-2020", in which the first priority is given to developing the cattle herd.

The total herd of cows in Thanh Chuong district is currently only 40,360, of which small-scale farming is still common, especially in densely populated areas with little land for natural grazing and building farms and ranches.

In that situation, the district has supported the purchase of 1,788 commercial cows; artificially inseminated about 2,600 Zebu cows per year; and supported 26 Zebu bulls for particularly disadvantaged communes. This breed of cows adapts well to the care and feeding conditions as well as the local climate, so it is developing effectively, contributing significantly to improving the quality of cows in areas far from the center, without conditions for artificial insemination.

Many households have invested billions of dong in raising cows, such as Mr. Le Xuan Son's household in hamlet 5A, Thanh Phong commune; Mr. Le Van Cuong in Thanh Lam commune has over 30 cows... The income value from raising cows increases by an average of 5.55% annually; the proportion of income from raising cows in the livestock industry by 2015 accounted for 8.09%, an increase of 1.8% compared to 2011.

The Resolution of the District Party Congress for the new term determined that agricultural production and livestock breeding will remain the top priority in the coming years. Accordingly, the District People's Committee has developed a Project on "Developing some livestock associated with brand building and product consumption in the period of 2016-2020", in which priority is given to developing cattle herds.

The target by 2020 is to have a total herd of 45,000 cows, meat output for slaughter: 2,000 tons, the proportion of income from cattle farming within the livestock industry accounts for 10-11%; on average each household raises 2.2-2.5 cows, farms and ranches have 20 cows or more; Zebu crossbred cows account for 90% or more; upgrade the buffalo and cow market in Thanh Luong commune; attract businesses to invest in raising and processing beef.

The project also clearly states that priority should be given to land funds for building farms, ranches and pastures; transferring and applying science and technology on breeds and feed; effectively exploiting related investment support policies; submitting to the District People's Council to issue appropriate mechanisms and policies to promote the development of some livestock species, with the orientation of supporting interest rates for loans to buy breeds in the first 6 months of 2016.

By identifying cattle farming as a key task and issuing appropriate mechanisms and policies, the Party Committee and government of Thah Chuong district are demonstrating their determination to put the resolutions of party congresses at all levels into practice with effective and feasible actions.
