Opening of literacy class for prisoners at Prison No. 3
(Baonghean.vn) - On the afternoon of September 16, in Tan Ky district, the Department of Education and Training of Tan Ky district coordinated with Prison No. 3 to organize the opening ceremony of the literacy class for the 2022-2023 school year.
The literacy class has 50 prisoners currently serving their sentences and being reformed at Prison No. 3. The oldest is 62 years old this year and the youngest is 24 years old, and all are male prisoners.

The work of teaching literacy to the illiterate community has always been of concern to our State. In the prison environment, literacy work for prisoners is also carried out regularly to create conditions for illiterate prisoners to learn to read and improve their awareness and understanding.
Thereby, it has also actively contributed to the work of educating and reforming prisoners and helping prisoners reintegrate into the community, becoming useful citizens to society.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Huy Cao - Deputy Head of the Department of Vocational Education - Continuing Education - Department of Education and Training said: The policy of opening a literacy class is a general policy. The literacy class for prisoners is considered a special class in the whole implementation process from the subjects, the way of organizing the opening ceremony and implementing the teaching program.
Literacy classes in prisons also demonstrate the humane spirit of the Party and State towards criminals. This creates a premise to help prisoners easily integrate and find jobs after completing their sentences.

The Department of Education and Training has also focused on implementing literacy classes for prisoners and has planned to organize regular teaching over many years. Thanks to that, thousands of prisoners have been given the opportunity to study and be literate, and many prisoners after the classes can read and write fluently and from there can self-study and improve their qualifications. During the implementation process, with its role, the sector has also directed the Department of Education and Training and schools located in the area to work with prisons to organize effective literacy teaching and learning, achieving the set goals.
At the opening ceremony, Lieutenant Colonel Dao Anh Son - Deputy Warden of Prison No. 3 also said: Educating and reforming those who have made mistakes when violating the law is the top priority of prisons, helping prisoners become honest citizens and useful to society. During the implementation process, prisons always receive attention from organizations and society, including the Education sector. In addition to teaching literacy, the Education sector also supports soldiers performing military service at the unit to consolidate knowledge to review for university and college entrance exams and bring many positive results.
