(Baonghean.vn) - With more than 13,000 young eels, after 10 months of care, there are about 2.5 tons of commercial eels, with a selling price of 150,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, the profit is nearly 200 million VND.

Mr. Le Van Hung in Man hamlet, Nghia Tho commune, after many years of struggling in the South, his family's economy still did not improve. In 2017, Mr. Hung returned to his hometown with the desire to get rich right in his homeland. Realizing that there were many restaurants in the area but the supply of eels was limited, he boldly invested in building a mud-free eel farming tank.

Due to lack of experience, the first batch of more than 100 kg of eel fry died after more than 1 month of raising. Undaunted, Mr. Hung was determined to continue investing in raising them, but this time he went all the way to Vinh Long to learn from experience and select the fry to raise... After 5 months of testing, Mr. Hung's mud-free eel farming model was successful.

Mr. Hung added that raising eels in a tank without mud is quite simple, the tank has an area of 10 - 30 m2, at the bottom of the tank there is a drain pipe, above which there is a water line to facilitate water changes. Many households have taken advantage of unused pig pens, or earthen ponds lined with tarpaulin in a corner of the garden to raise eels, the water level in the tank is from 20 - 25cm.
To give the eels shelter, place woven bamboo trays or plastic bags in the tank. Every morning, change all the water to give the eels a clean living environment. If you want the eels to grow quickly and have a high survival rate, the most important step is to ensure that the source of the fry has a clear origin, is not scratched, and is of uniform size. Next, the water source must be clean, if the water is dirty, the eels can easily get sick and die.

"To raise eels without mud, you should choose natural breeds. Although artificial breeds are easy to raise, they are difficult to sell. From natural breeds, I gradually get them used to the artificial breeding environment by pumping and changing water regularly, monitoring the water level, mixing anti-shock drugs and intestinal disease drugs into the food so that the eels can resist well; and making additional nylon ropes so that the eels have a place to hide..." - Mr. Le Van Hung shared.

Mr. Hung added: "Raising eels does not require a high investment capital, so we make the most of the area around the garden, so in the near future my family will expand the scale to 12 tanks. If young people inside and outside the commune need advice and guidance on eel farming techniques, I am ready to support them."

According to Mr. Hung's calculation, with more than 13,000 young fish, after 10 months of care, there are about 2.5 tons of commercial eels, with a selling price of 150,000 VND/kg, after deducting expenses, the profit is nearly 200 million VND.

The success of Mr. Le Van Hung not only creates an effective source of income for his family but also opens a new direction in economic development, encourages the spirit of learning for many union members in the commune; contributes to hunger eradication, poverty reduction, and socio-economic development in the locality.

Mr. Truong Hung Dung - Deputy Secretary of the District Youth Union said, In the coming time, the district will introduce and replicate the mud-free eel farming model of Mr. Le Van Hung for other union members and youth to follow.
