Prosecuted 3 people for killing 9 black-shanked douc langurs

On the afternoon of August 29, Khanh Vinh District Police (Khanh Hoa) announced that they had just initiated a case and prosecuted three people for using guns to hunt, kill, and illegally transport 9 wild animals on July 11.

Three defendants, Giang Seo De (35 years old), Ly A Thanh (28 years old) and Giang Seo Chua (19 years old, all residing in Cu San commune, M'Drak district, Dak Lak) were also temporarily detained for three months to serve the investigation.

According to the police, the prosecution of these three defendants was carried out after the results of the examination (by the Institute of Tropical Biology of Ho Chi Minh City) determined that the nine animals shot dead were black-shanked douc langurs (scientific name Pygathrix Nigripes), belonging to group 1B - a list of rare animals, listed in the Vietnam Red Book.

Previously, on July 11, a patrol team of Khanh Vinh District Police discovered these three young men carrying a sack containing nine black-shanked douc langurs that had been gutted and dried, weighing 5-7kg each, for sale, so they detained them and took them to the district police headquarters.

Here, three young men admitted to going into the forest together and using homemade flintlock guns to shoot and kill the nine langurs mentioned above in sub-area 203 (in the forest area of ​​Khanh Thanh commune, Khanh Vinh district).
