Prosecuted 8 subjects related to 600 billion VND online gambling ring
Initial investigations determined that this internet gambling ring took place in many provinces and cities with gambling amounts of more than 600 billion VND.
On the morning of October 2, speaking to reporters, Colonel Nguyen Duc Dung - Deputy Director, Head of the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province Police, said that he had initiated a case, prosecuted and temporarily detained for 4 months 8 subjects related to the online gambling ring with the initial gambling amount determined to be over 600 billion VND.
The subjects were prosecuted for investigation of two acts of "gambling" and "organizing gambling".
Previously, as reported by CAND Newspaper, in mid-August 2018, the Director of Quang Nam Provincial Police established Project 0818BLT, focusing on fighting against gambling and online gambling organizations.

The ringleader of this gambling ring is Huynh Quoc Viet (37 years old, residing in Dai Hiep commune, Dai Loc district). After nearly 2 months of investigation, the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department decided to successfully solve the case with the active participation of the Ministry of Public Security and local police in the investigation and persuading the suspects to surrender.
According to initial investigation results, it was determined that since early July 2018, the subjects in the ring had used the internet to organize gambling for hundreds of subjects in provinces and cities such as Gia Lai, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Da Nang, ... via the internet, with the initial gambling amount determined to be more than 600 billion VND.
In addition, many people also engage in loan sharking, debt collection, and "gangster" style debt collection, extorting property from gamblers when they cannot pay back loan interest.
The case is currently being investigated and expanded by Quang Nam Provincial Police.
