Prosecuted 8 subjects related to 600 billion VND online gambling ring

On the morning of October 2, speaking to reporters, Colonel Nguyen Duc Dung - Deputy Director, Head of the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province Police, said that he had initiated a case, prosecuted and temporarily detained for 4 months 8 subjects related to the internet gambling ring with the initial gambling amount determined to be more than 600 billion VND.

The subjects were prosecuted for investigation of two acts of "gambling" and "organizing gambling".

Previously, as reported by CAND Newspaper, in mid-August 2018, the Director of Quang Nam Provincial Police established Project 0818BLT, focusing on fighting against gambling organizations and online gambling.

The leader of this gambling ring is Huynh Quoc Viet (37 years old, residing in Dai Hiep commune, Dai Loc district). After nearly 2 months of investigation, the Quang Nam Provincial Police Department decided to successfully solve the case with the active participation and coordination of the investigation and persuasion of the subjects to surrender by the functional forces of the Ministry of Public Security and the police of several localities.

According to the initial investigation results, it was determined that since the beginning of July 2018, the subjects in the ring had used the internet to organize gambling for hundreds of subjects in provinces and cities such as Gia Lai, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Da Nang, ... over the internet, with the initial gambling amount determined to be more than 600 billion VND.

In addition, many people also engage in loan sharking, debt collection, and "gangster" style debt collection, extorting property from gamblers when they cannot repay loan interest.
