Criminal prosecution of quarry landslide that killed 8 people in Thanh Hoa

On January 25, the Investigation Police Agency of Thanh Hoa Province Police issued a decision to initiate a criminal investigation into the work accident that killed 8 people at Hang Ca quarry, Yen Lam commune (Yen Dinh district) according to Article 227 of the Penal Code on violating labor safety regulations causing serious consequences.

Previously, at 10:30 a.m. on January 22, at the stone quarry of Tuan Hung private enterprise, a group of workers were quarrying stone when suddenly a mass of thousands of cubic meters of rock and earth above collapsed, burying 8 people.

Immediately after the accident, authorities mobilized more than 200 people from the engineering force, police and local authorities, along with many vehicles and machines, to search for victims buried in the rocks.

By January 23, all the victims had been found, however all eight victims had died due to severe injuries.

The victims include Truong Van Danh (born in 1983), Le Van Quang (born in 1981), Pham Van Truong (born in 1988) and Ha Van Duc (born in 1979), Dinh Van Hoang (born in 1982), Pham Van Phi (born in 1983), all from Thiet Ong commune, Ba Thuoc district (Thanh Hoa province); Mr. Tran Nhu Dung - manager of Tuan Hung enterprise and Tran Van Nam (born in 1963), from Yen Lam commune, Yen Dinh district.

The quarry has been suspended and people are strictly prohibited from entering the quarry area to investigate and clarify the cause of the accident./.
