Prosecution of former Director and Deputy Director of forestry company for illegally allocating forest land
Two former leaders of the Forestry Company were prosecuted for "Forest Destruction" for illegally allocating forest land to a rubber plantation unit. They assigned subordinates to assess the current state of the forest, but did not report the actual situation, causing damage to dozens of hectares of forest.

These are two of the defendants involved in the case of “Forest Destruction” that occurred in Ham Can Commune, Ham Thuan Nam District, managed and protected by Binh Thuan Forestry One Member Co., Ltd. The case was prosecuted by the Investigation Police Agency of Binh Thuan Province Police since October 26, 2017.
According to the case file, on February 27, 2004, the People's Committee of Binh Thuan province issued a Decision to convert 3,675 hectares of critical protection forest from natural forest to production forest, of which 3,570 hectares were assigned to Binh Thuan Forestry Company for management and use in accordance with the regulations on production forest from natural forest. Although he clearly knew the policy of the Provincial People's Committee to temporarily suspend the project to improve the depleted forest, in February 2013, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Can, then Deputy General Director, directed the Technical Department of the Forestry Company to assess the current status of the above forest according to... "Forest inventory results in 1999" (14 years after the assessment of the current forest status), which did not match the current forest status that the Technical Department had previously reported and proposed.
On April 1, 2013, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Can proposed to hand over to Phuoc Sang Company Limited 21.63 hectares of natural production forest out of 44 hectares of protected forest (in Sub-area 279, Hamlet 3, Ham Can Commune) to level and plant rubber trees and Mr. Nguyen Tien Dung, then General Director, agreed to sign the economic contract appendix.The results of the consultation on forest resource damage assessment for the forest land area that Binh Thuan Forestry Company handed over to Phuoc Sang Company Limited were more than 60 hectares, with damage to timber reserves of 2,604.6 m3.
