On the evening of August 12, leaders of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nghe An province were present at the scene to direct forest fire fighting.
“On the night of August 12, the weather was no longer hot, so the firefighting force of more than 200 people started to build firebreaks, using iron grills and tree branches to contain the fires. At around 9:00 p.m. on August 12, the fire was brought under control and completely extinguished,” said Mr. Huynh.
Mr. Dang Van Viet - Chairman of Khanh Son Commune People's Committee said that on the morning of August 13, the commune government conducted a survey of the damage caused by the fire. According to initial estimates, the fire burned down more than 12.3 hectares of pine, acacia, eucalyptus and reed forests (including 4.8 hectares of pine, acacia and eucalyptus forests).
“The area of pine forest that was burned by the people was 7-10 years old. Currently, we are sending forces to be on duty at the fire sites to prevent the fire from breaking out again and at the same time reporting the damage to superiors so that they can find a way to restore the burned forest areas,” said Mr. Viet.
Nam Dan District People's Committee also directed the police to examine the scene, collect information, and investigate to clarify the cause and perpetrator of the forest fire.
