CNNNorth Korean leader Kim Jong-un is likely to hold a summit with US President Donald Trump at the Panmonjum border between North and South Korea, a source said today. Some related events may take place on North Korean territory, north of the Military Demarcation Line (DML).
The South Korean president appears to have convinced the North Korean leader to choose this location for their historic meeting on April 27. CNN sources revealed that Mr. Moon may attend the meeting between the US president and the North Korean leader.
Panmonjum is considered a reasonable solution for Mr. Kim, because the infrastructure and communication equipment are already prepared, allowing the US and North Korea to hold a summit at the end of May. Going to the north of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) that divides the two Koreas is also a historic opportunity for Mr. Trump.
Previously, President Trump suggested holding the summit at the inter-Korean border."Many countries are being considered for the meeting, but would Peace House on the Border of North and South Korea be more representative, important, and lasting than a third country? I'm just asking," Mr. Trump posted on Twitter.
A US official said President Trump enjoyed the images from the summit between Mr. Kim and Mr. Moon, as well as the fact that the event was televised live around the world.
