Grasping the market demand for peach blossom supply every Tet holiday, Ms. Lai planted 500 peach trees.

Quynh Chau is a semi-mountainous commune located in the west of Quynh Luu district. Agricultural and forestry production here always faces many difficulties due to the arid nature of the land. The water source here depends entirely on the weather, with the main source being dams with low reserves, which dry up before the sun. Many years of drought have forced people to abandon their fields because they cannot cultivate them. For hilly and forested land, it is even more difficult, so most people mainly plant raw material forests such as eucalyptus, acacia, cajuput, etc.

However, in Ms. Lai’s family farm in the high hills, the greenest land, the main crops are “super” drought-resistant plants including pineapple, vetiver, peach, lychee and hundreds of beehives. Ms. Lai said that she had previously experimented with growing many different types of plants such as sugarcane, beans, peanuts, corn, etc., but due to the barren land and severe lack of water, many types of plants could not grow.

After many years of struggling, she has chosen her own path, planning the garden into areas to grow many drought-resistant plants with high productivity and yield. Typically, pineapple and vetiver with an area of nearly 1.5 hectares of alternating crops, each year her family earns 180 million VND.

Vetiver is a drought-resistant plant with high income currently in difficult-to-cultivate lands.

Besides these two main crops, she also grows 100 lychee trees. During the season, each lychee tree yields from 1 to 2 quintals of fruit, with an average price of 6,000 VND/kg, earning about 120 million VND.

This arid mountainous area is also very suitable for peach trees, so Ms. Lai and her husband planted 500 peach trees to cut branches to sell during Tet, bringing in about 80 million VND in revenue each year.

Under the canopy of perennial lychee trees - a valuable source of nutrition for bees, are honeycombs, lychee flowers.Natural beekeeping is almost entirely profitable. Even the biggest investment, the wooden crate, can be made from scrap wood.

Under the roots and leaves of the lychee tree are 100 beehives for honey. The large hilly garden area, peach blossoms, and lychee flowers in full bloom, are the food source for this honey bee colony. According to Ms. Lai, raising bees in a natural way produces very good quality honey, which is favored by the market. Just counting the sale of honey alone, her family earns 120 million VND each year, and the cost is insignificant.

Thus, after deducting expenses, her family earns a net profit of about 300 million VND each year. Currently, thanks to the application of machinery in the land preparation stage, Ms. Nguyen Thi Lai's farm has saved a lot of labor. Except for the harvest season when workers must be hired, every day, Ms. Lai's family only needs 4 people in the house to work directly. This is considered one of the most stable and sustainable income models in the mountainous commune of Quynh Chau, Quynh Luu district./.
