On the afternoon of June 28, comrade Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the National Assembly Delegation of Nghe An Province and comrade Le Xuan Dai - Member of the Provincial Party Committee Standing Committee, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee went to Military Hospital 4 to visit two border guards who were injured while busting a major drug trafficking case. Currently, the health of these two soldiers has temporarily passed the critical stage.

At the hospital bed, one of the two soldiers was able to talk, while the other was shot twice. According to doctors, this patient is at risk of spinal damage and is expected to be transferred to Hanoi for further treatment.

Provincial leaders have encouraged and sympathized with the soldiers, the victims’ families, and the border guard task force. “The immediate focus is on treating the soldiers and mobilizing forces to track down the perpetrators…”, the Provincial Party Secretary said.

According to Colonel Nguyen Cong Luc - Deputy Commander of the Nghe An Border Guard Command, at around 6:30 a.m. on June 28, at Khanh Thanh village (Nam Can commune, Ky Son), detectives discovered Vu Ba Xenh (39 years old, Tay Son commune, Ky Son), along with another man with signs of illegally transporting drugs from Laos to Vietnam. This is a special project coordinated by Nghe An Border Guard with the Northern Special Task Force (Department of Drug and Crime Prevention, Border Guard Command), secretly monitoring for the past 3 months.

However, when the detectives rushed in to control Xênh, the remaining person immediately pulled out a gun and fired continuously at the police force and quickly ran into the forest. The incident caused Lieutenant Nguyen Dinh Tai (a drug detective of the Nghe An Border Guard Command) to be hit once in the abdomen. Meanwhile, another bullet also hit Major Tran Manh Hung (a detective of the Drug and Crime Prevention Department, Border Guard Command) in the shoulder.

Searching Xênh, the detectives seized 20 heroin cakes, 7 kg of crystal methamphetamine, 12,000 methamphetamine pills, 1 gun, 15 bullets, 1 bullet shell and 1 cell phone.

Colonel Nguyen Cong Luc said that Vu Ba Xenh is a teacher at Tay Son Primary School (Ky Son District). "Currently, hundreds of police officers are blocking the border area, urgently searching for the person accompanying Xenh who fired at the scouts," Colonel Luc said, adding that this area is only about 10 km from the border.
