Seeing an overturned car on fire, a man ran to it and pulled the seriously injured driver to safety in California, USA.

According to Mirror, Santiago Portillo, 37 years old, said he was working in a nearby store when he heard a loud noise on May 11.

“I saw a car on fire outside the window,” Portillo said. He took out his phone and turned on video to record the car flipping over, but saw an arm sticking out the window and a sweater.

"I knew there was someone inside. I hoped he wasn't cooked," Portillo recalled. He ran to pull the driver to safety.

"The smoke was so black that I couldn't breathe. The car was upside down, everything inside was upside down." At that time, he observed that many people were just standing there taking pictures with their phones, but no one ran to help.

Police said two cars were racing on Indiana Avenue at the time. One driver lost control, hit a lamppost and flipped onto the side of the road, but fortunately his life was not in danger. The driver, Ricardo Nunenz, who was pulled from the car by Portillo, is recovering in the hospital.

Portillo's daughter calls her father a hero, but he doesn't think so.

"I'm not a hero, I'm just a normal person," Portillo said. "If someone was in trouble, I would definitely continue to do the same thing."
