The funeral of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh was held according to state-level protocol.

The Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and the family are deeply saddened to announce that Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh passed away on August 22 due to serious illness.

After a period of illness, despite the devoted care and treatment of the Party, the State, professors, doctors and his family, due to serious illness, Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh passed away at 8:20 p.m. on August 22, 2023 (July 7, Quy Mao year) at his home, at the age of 61.

To express condolences and acknowledge the achievements and contributions of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh, the Party Central Committee, the National Assembly, the President, the Government, and the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front decided to hold the funeral of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh with the State funeral ceremony.

The Central Party Secretariat has decided to establish a State Funeral Committee consisting of 23 members; headed by Mr. Le Minh Khai - Central Party Secretary, Deputy Prime Minister.

The funeral will be held from 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 24, 2023 (July 9, year of the Cat) to 7:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 26, 2023 (July 11, year of the Cat).

Memorial service at 7:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023. Followed by Funeral and Burial before 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 26, 2023 at the hometown cemetery in Tan Lien commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city.

The coffin of Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh lies in state at the Hai Phong City Convention Center, 18 Hoang Dieu, Hong Bang District, Hai Phong City.

Mr. Le Van Thanh was born on October 20, 1962, in Tan Lien commune, Vinh Bao district, Hai Phong city; Master's degree in Economic Management.

He is a member of the Party Central Committee, 12th and 13th terms; a delegate of the 12th National Assembly.

He grew up as an accountant and then held many leadership and management positions at Hai Phong Cement Factory and assumed the position of Director of Hai Phong Cement Company, concurrently Head of the Hai Phong Cement Urban Area Project Management Board until July 2010.

He then held the position of Vice Chairman of Hai Phong City People's Committee from July 2010 to December 2014 and became Chairman of the city from December 2014 to June 2016.

From July 2016 to April 2021, he was Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Hai Phong City.

He has held the position of Deputy Prime Minister from April 2021 to present.

Deputy Prime Minister Le Van Thanh was awarded the Third Class Labor Medal, National Emulation Fighter and many other noble medals and orders by the Party and State.
