Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha inspects storm response work No. 10 in Nghe An

On the afternoon of September 28, comrade Tran Hong Ha - Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Head of the National Civil Defense Steering Committee, Head of the Forward Steering Committee inspected the response to storm No. 10 in Nghe An.

Joining the delegation were leaders of Military Region 4. Leaders of Nghe An province included comrade Le Hong Vinh - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control - Search and Rescue and Civil Defense and leaders of a number of departments and branches.

Immediately after chairing an online meeting of the Government's Forward Command at Thanh Hoa bridge with central ministries, branches and North Central provinces on emergency response to storm No. 10, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha directly traveled to Nghe An to inspect the situation.

At Dien Chau commune (merged Dien Chau town and Dien Hoa, Dien Phuc, Ngoc Bich communes of the old Dien Chau district), the Deputy Prime Minister inspected storm prevention and control work at Chien Thang anchorage on Lach Van.

The atmosphere of urgency is evident in the locality. The whole commune currently has 378 fishing vessels with 1,285 workers; all have been called and brought to safe anchorage at ports inside and outside the province, of which, Lach Van alone has 2 ports. Fishermen have also completed moving rafts and rafts to storm shelters, there is no longer a situation of subjectivity or spontaneous anchorage.

In parallel with ensuring the safety of boats, the work of evacuating people from dangerous areas was carried out. 176 households with 540 people were arranged to move to relatives' houses with solid structures, some were temporarily arranged to stay at schools in the area. All evacuation points have been fully prepared with food, drinking water and necessities, ready to ensure the safety of people for many days if the storm lasts.

The commune leaders have directed cadres of specialized sectors, police and military forces, village team leaders, grassroots police officers, the entire political system in blocks, hamlets, units, agencies, schools located in the area and all people to concentrate all human resources, means and equipment to prevent and fight the storm.

At the scene, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha spent time directly discussing with fishermen and local people about storm prevention and control, especially the situation of moving ships and boats, and the evacuation of households in dangerous areas.

During the conversation, local people said that they promptly brought the vehicle to a safe anchorage and at the same time, prepared the anchor rope and carefully secured it.

The Deputy Prime Minister acknowledged the proactive and urgent spirit of the people, and emphasized the importance of not being subjective and strictly following the instructions of the government and functional forces; at the same time, requested the local forces to continue to stay close to the grassroots, promptly supporting people during the storm response process and after the storm.

The Deputy Prime Minister also directly listened to Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee Le Hong Vinh report on the situation in the province. Accordingly, the province has proactively deployed response work according to the "4 on-site" motto. Communes and wards have "gone to every alley, knocked on every door", calling on ships and boats to return to shelters. As for houses in vulnerable areas that are subject to evacuation, the elderly and children basically go first, and the healthy people are evacuated later.

In the context that storm No. 10 is forecast to directly affect Nghe An from the evening of September 28, with the storm lasting up to 6 hours, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasized the need to absolutely not be subjective or negligent in any aspect of prevention and control work; especially, the safety of people's lives must be put first and foremost.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister, response plans must be reviewed for each locality and each household. The evacuation work must be completed urgently and resolutely, not allowing people to stay in dangerous areas, especially in aquaculture and seafood farming areas. At the same time, local forces must always be ready to respond and provide timely support when unexpected situations arise.

According to the report of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense, coastal localities have developed plans to evacuate 2,030 households/6,379 people in the event of storm No. 10. The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee has directed localities to complete the evacuation of people from dangerous areas before 3:00 p.m. on September 28.

Military forces, police and other forces in the area have worked with local authorities to support people in moving their properties to safety, minimizing damage to people's property.

Regarding the situation of boats, Nghe An currently has 2,895 vehicles with 13,070 workers directly exploiting seafood. As of the reporting time, 2,891 vehicles with 13,048 workers have returned to safe anchorage (in the province 2,802 vehicles/12,516 workers; outside the province 89 vehicles/532 workers). All boats at the anchorage area are securely secured by the authorities and fishermen. There are only 4 vehicles with 22 workers operating in the waters of Ho Chi Minh City, outside the storm-affected area.
