Unexpected confession of female employee who stole 160 taels of gold

On January 10, Tra Vinh Provincial Police said that the investigation agency is clarifying the case.theft of propertyfor Chau Thi Thuy Kieu (32 years old, residing in An Truong commune, Cang Long district). Chau Thi Thuy Kieu was prosecuted and detained by the investigation agency for the act of "Theft of property".

According to the initial investigation, suspect Kieu is an employee of a gold shop in Ward 3 (Tra Vinh City). At the investigation agency, Kieu confessed to working at the gold shop since 2014. During the working process, the gold shop owner opened another branch and Kieu was assigned to be the warehouse manager.

Every day, the shop owner directly delivers gold to Kieu (delivery by bill and showing the weight). Kieu receives the gold and hands it over to the craftsman to polish or craft. When the silversmith finishes, he hands the gold back to Kieu, who stamps it and gives it to the counter staff to sell to customers. Kieu also hands over the bill to the gold shop owner for management and monitoring.

Kieu admitted to taking advantage of the gold shop owner's trust in not checking the warehouse. This person repeatedly stole large quantities of gold.

Kieu confessed that from November 2022 to November 2023, this woman stole nearly 100 taels of 24K gold and more than 60 taels of 18K gold; the total value was nearly 8 billion VND.

According to the gold shop owner's report, the suspect Kieu stole a large amount of gold but was not discovered until Huynh Hai Quang (born 1986, residing in Tra Vinh City) used a gun to rob the gold shop in Chau Thanh district on the evening of November 30, 2023.

Huynh Hai Quang is Kieu's husband. Therefore, after the incident, the gold shop owner inspected and asked Kieu to hand over the warehouse. At this time, Kieu admitted to stealing the gold and turned herself in to the police.

According to Kieu’s statement, the gold stolen from the store was given to her husband for personal use. During the investigation of the gold store robbery, the investigating agency discovered that Quang had many transactions with large sums of money suspected to be used for gambling or investing in virtual currency…

As reported, in the robbery of a gold shop in Chau Thanh district on the evening of November 30, 2023, the Investigation Police Agency prosecuted Lai The Viet (22 years old, residing in Thuy Nguyen district, Hai Phong city). Lai The Viet met Huynh Hai Quang through social networks. The two discussed committing the robbery.

On November 30, 2023, Viet went to Tra Vinh City to meet Quang to discuss the robbery plan. There, Quang gave Viet one gun, and he kept the other.

That same evening, Viet and Quang took two guns and rode a motorbike to rob the My Trang gold shop (in Chau Thanh town). Quang shot Mrs. P. (the owner of the gold shop), injuring her. Then, Quang used a hard object to smash the glass case and steal 6 taels of gold. After that, both of them got on a motorbike and escaped.

On the run, Quang gave Viet 5 million VND to hire a motorbike taxi to return to Ho Chi Minh City.

At around 8:50 p.m. the same day, a working group from the Traffic Police Department of Tien Giang Province Police stationed at Ngai Loi Hamlet (Than Cuu Nghia Commune, Chau Thanh District) discovered Viet moving on National Highway 1, so they controlled, arrested him, and handed him over to Tra Vinh Police.

Quang escaped on his motorbike towards Co Chien bridge. When he reached Binh Phu commune (Cang Long district, Tra Vinh province), Quang saw the district police working group and opened fire on the law enforcement officers. Quang fled at high speed, fell and died on the spot.

The Investigation Police Agency, Tra Vinh Provincial Police seized 2 guns, 75 lead bullets, 1 motorbike and many related objects.

Initially, the police seized more than 80 taels of 18k gold as evidence related to the robbery.
