Along with the high profit results in the year, the salary and bonus of banking employees last year also increased sharply compared to the previous year.Continuing to lead in salary and bonus payments to employees last year was Vietcombank, with each employee receiving an average of 32.3 million VND per month, the highest among banks that have announced consolidated financial reports for the fourth quarter of 2017.

Accordingly, the total number of Vietcombank employees at the end of 2017 was 16,227 people. The bank's salary and allowance expenses for the year were more than VND6,288 billion, an increase of nearly 27% compared to less than VND5,000 billion in 2016. On average, Vietcombank employees' income in 2017 was VND32.3 million per person per month, an increase of nearly 22% compared to VND26.5 million per person per month in 2016.

Not only in 2017 but up to now, in the banking system, Vietcombank has always been the champion in salary and bonus payment for employees.

The bank with the second highest income level for employees is the Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam - BIDV, with each employee receiving an average of 29.2 million VND per month.According to the explanatory notes to the separate report for the fourth quarter of 2017 of this bank, BIDV spent 7,182 billion VND on salaries and allowances of 24,588 employees.

Military Bank (MB) is the bank with the third highest average employee income in the system, at VND25.9 million per month, equivalent to more than VND310 million per year. This level has increased by nearly VND6 million per month compared to last year.Last year, MBBank was also one of the banks that announced business results with a record high profit in history, reaching nearly 5,400 billion VND.

In addition, statistics from the financial reports of the fourth quarter of 2017 of other commercial banks show that the average monthly income (including salary, allowances, and other income) of employees also fluctuates from 11 to more than 20 million VND.

Employees at Vietnam International Bank (VIB) have an average income of 20.3 million VND. Saigon Thuong Tin Bank (Sacombank), LienVietPostBank, TPBank, BacABank, VPBank receive an average of 16.6-19.6 million VND per month, respectively.

In fact, the average income of VPBank employees increased by more than 5 million VND per month over the past year. Other banks such as Sacombank and TPBank increased by nearly 3 million VND per month.

Bank leaders said that in 2017, there was a lot of investment in expanding the network, which led to an increase in the salary fund. At the same time, the bank increased salaries for many employees with outstanding achievements.

At the same time, considering this a very stressful field, a leader of a joint stock bank in Ho Chi Minh City shared that bank employees worked under stress last year, especially sales staff who were under pressure about sales. As for transaction staff who work directly with customers, they are under pressure about working hours. "There are times when they work until 8-9pm and don't get to go home, so this average income is not high," he said.

An industry expert further analyzed that the average income is actually the average salary of the leader plus the employee and then divided equally. Therefore, although the average income is high, many employees actually receive much less.

However, although the average income may not accurately and fairly reflect each individual's income, it partly reflects the promising profits and performance of the banking industry in the past year.
