The trick of the man who 'carried' 8 heroin cakes across the border

(Baonghean.vn) - In early June 2016, through a survey of the situation in the border area of Nam Can commune, Ky Son district, Nghe An Border Guard scouts discovered an organized drug trafficking ring through many provinces from Laos to Vietnam.

They often take advantage of the area near the border, the difficult and rugged mountainous terrain, but not far from the border gate to easily blend in and carry out drug trafficking. Faced with that situation, Nghe An Border Guard mobilized experienced scouts to monitor and verify.

Through investigation, the detectives determined that this was an organized drug ring operating in a closed manner along the border provinces adjacent to Nghe An, from Bolikhamxay province to Xieng Khouang province of Laos. To deceive the investigation agency, they often used ethnic minorities on both sides of the border to transport drugs.

Before delivering the drugs, they carefully research and survey the terrain, understand the operating rules of the authorities, and especially take full advantage of holidays to transport drugs.

The subjects often use ethnic people from both sides of the border to visit relatives, cross the border, and trade agricultural products to transport drugs to Vietnam for consumption. To avoid detection, they also change the transporter from Bolikhamxay province to Xieng Khouang province to avoid being monitored.

Faced with the extremely sophisticated tricks of the criminals, Nghe An Border Guard determined that it was necessary to quickly eliminate this drug ring. Project 357LV was quickly established to combat and destroy it.

After nearly 6 months of investigation, on December 23, the patrol team of Nam Can International Border Gate Border Post coordinated with the Drug and Crime Prevention Department, Nghe An Border Guard decided to solve the case.

After waiting, at 9:00 p.m. the same day, the subject appeared at the border crossing area, about 1.5 km from border marker 404 in Tien Tieu village, Nam Can commune, Ky Son district. The detectives were ordered to raid and arrest Vu Giong Po red-handed while he was carrying 8 heroin bars, 300 USD and 2 cell phones for communication.

Through initial questioning, the suspect Po was hired to transport drugs for a stranger for a fee of 1,000 USD and 1,000 baht (Thai currency). When he arrived at the above location, he was arrested.
