Military plane crashes in Nghe An, 2 pilots die
(Baonghean.vn) - A military plane crashed in Dua village, Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district, about 100km from Vinh city; according to information, 2 pilots were killed.
According to the Ministry of National Defense's Information Portal, the Su-22U aircraft, serial number 8551 of the 921st Air Force Regiment, 371st Division, Air Defense - Air Force, was on a training flight and lost contact at 11:35 a.m. The aircraft then crashed in Dua village, Nghia Yen commune.
The two pilots who died in the training flight were: Lieutenant Colonel Khuat Manh Tri, Deputy Regiment Commander, Chief of Staff of Air Force Regiment 921, born in 1978; hometown: Le Loi ward, Son Tay town, Hanoi city; Senior Lieutenant Colonel Pham Giang Nam, Flight Commander of Air Force Regiment 921, born in 1972; hometown: Thuy Binh, Thai Thuy, Thai Binh.

According to VNA News, this military plane is said to have taken off from Sao Vang Airport (Tho Xuan District, Thanh Hoa Province) and crashed in Dua Village, Nghia Yen Commune, Nghia Dan District, Nghe An at around 12 noon on July 26.

At the scene, it was recorded that the plane exploded, with many pieces of debris falling to the scene.
Currently in Nghia Yen commune, Nghia Dan district, it is raining, traffic to the scene is difficult; overcoming the consequences is facing many difficulties.

Functional units of Nghe An province and Nghia Dan district are coordinating with functional units of the Ministry of National Defense and the Air Defense - Air Force to protect the scene.
Local records show that upon hearing the news of the plane crash, many people came to Dua village to see and learn about the incident. The plane crash site is about 100km from Vinh city. |

Currently, the scene of the plane crash has been cordoned off. Authorities from the Ministry of National Defense, Military Region 4 and Nghe An province are present at the scene to organize rescue and relief operations.

The crashed aircraft was a Su-22. This is a Soviet-developed attack aircraft based on the Su-17 swing-wing fighter-bomber. Inheriting this design and equipped with Lyulka AL-21F-3 jet engines, the Su-22 can cruise at supersonic speeds even at low altitudes and reach speeds of 2,082 km/h at high altitudes with its wings folded in.
The Su-22 has a longer range, is more heavily armed with two 23 mm Nudelman cannons and 10 hardpoints to carry two heat-seeking air-to-air missiles and twice the bomb load of the Su-17. The Su-22's common weapons are unguided bombs and rockets.
