Cooking tip: The secret to quickly and easily cleaning sand from clams – anyone can do it!
Clams are delicious, but they often contain sand, which spoils the meal. With just a simple cooking trick, you can have sand-free, fresh, and sweet clams ready to cook.
Clams are a familiar seafood, prepared in many delicious ways such as soup, steamed, stir-fried, or grilled. Clam meat is sweet and tender, rich in protein, low in fat, and provides many important minerals such as calcium, iron, zinc, and selenium. However, clams often contain sand, which, if not thoroughly washed, can spoil the flavor of the dish.
Many people soak clams in cooking oil and salt to remove sand, but according to experienced fishermen, this is a mistake. The oil covers the surface of the water, making it difficult for the clams to breathe, and the salt is difficult to control to achieve the same salinity as seawater, so it's not very effective. Instead, simply using white vinegar will quickly remove all the sand from the clams.
Detailed instructions:
Wash the clam shells thoroughly:
Soak in water and scrub thoroughly to remove any remaining mud and dirt.

Soak in white vinegar:
Prepare a bowl of clean water, add 1 tablespoon of white vinegar for every 500g of clams. Stir well until the water has a slightly sour smell.
Place the clam container in a dark place:
Cover the clams with a lid or use a dark-colored plastic bag to make them feel safe. When the clams breathe, they will expel sand and mud.
Change the water and rinse again.

After 30 minutes to 2 hours, change the water again to remove any remaining dirt. Finally, rinse the clams thoroughly under running water.
