Opening up new avenues for forestry development...
(Baonghean) - Large investment, modern technology and equipment, a well-structured strategy for building raw material areas, and close relationships between the factory and businesses and households engaged in forest planting, based on ensuring a harmonious balance of interests - This is the approach taken by the Nghe An Wood Processing and MDF Fiberboard Factory to open a sustainable path for forest planting in the western part of the province.
Visiting Nghia Dan Industrial Park at this time, one can see a large-scale, modern wood processing factory nestled amidst vast, lush green forests. Two years after its commencement, with investment advice from Bac A Commercial Joint Stock Bank, the MDF wood and fiberboard processing factory of Thang Nam Forestry Joint Stock Company was built on an area of 40 hectares, including factory buildings, auxiliary systems, warehouses, office buildings, roads, and green spaces.

The Nghe An MDF Wood Factory project is part of TH Group's "Sustainable Forest Development Strategy in Nghe An," with a total investment of US$300 million, divided into two phases: Phase 1, with a total investment of over US$100 million, includes two production lines: a lumber processing line with a capacity of 12,000 m³/year; and an MDF fiberboard processing line with a capacity of 130,000 m³/year. Phase 2 will increase the total capacity of the lumber factory to 40,000 m³/year and the MDF factory to 400,000 m³/year with a total investment of US$200 million, expected to be operational in 2018. The project's effectiveness report shows that, once operational, the factory will not only generate business profits, contribute to the national budget, and protect the environment, but also bring social benefits, contributing to the transformation of crop structures and encouraging the development of the forest economy in the western region of Nghe An. An has created jobs for 400 workers directly employed at the factory and thousands of jobs for families involved in planting timber forests.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Vinh, General Director of Thang Nam Forestry Joint Stock Company, said: Thanks to the investor's selection of the best technology and equipment suppliers in the world, the factory's products will meet international quality standards and be competitive in demanding markets such as the US, Japan, and the EU. These include continuous forming and compression equipment from Dieffenbacher (Germany), a leading global supplier of plywood equipment; wood fiberboard production technology from Metso (Sweden); chipping, cleaning, and storage technology from Hombak/CMC (Germany); sanding technology from Steinemann (Germany); and final product cutting technology from Anthon (Germany). With the advantage of using leading-edge European technology, all wood processing stages are fully automated, from raw material input to finished product. By applying advanced technology, all parts of the tree trunk, branches, and roots can be utilized for wood processing, while leftover materials such as sawdust can be used as fuel to generate energy, reducing costs for businesses and preventing environmental pollution.
To ensure a sufficient supply of raw materials when the factory becomes operational, the People's Committee of Nghe An province has approved a raw material sourcing area for the project, covering nearly 50,000 hectares across six western districts of Nghe An. Accordingly, the factory is expected to lease over 11,589 hectares for self-forestation, ensuring a proactive supply of raw materials for the wood processing plant. The area under joint ventures and partnerships is 33,422 hectares, belonging to forestry farms, protective forest management boards, and Youth Volunteer Brigades 3 and 6, as well as individual farmers engaged in forest planting. The planned raw material sourcing area is relatively concentrated, contiguous, and within a 100km radius of the factory, with convenient transportation access.

Currently, Thang Nam Forestry Joint Stock Company has participated in the establishment of two joint stock companies for raw material development to manage and organize production: Dong Bac Raw Material Development Joint Stock Company and Phu Quy Raw Material Development Joint Stock Company. At the same time, it is organizing joint ventures and partnerships with units and individual households planting forests for the project, ensuring scientific and efficient exploitation of planted areas, increasing tree productivity, bringing higher revenue per unit area, and contributing to increasing the income of forest planters. To implement this task, the company is preparing a plan and building a joint venture and partnership mechanism. In 2015, with the support of the local government, the company will work with and sign contracts with units and households in the raw material area. It will build a network for purchasing and transporting raw timber, ensuring efficient operation, reducing intermediaries, and lowering costs, thereby ensuring the supply of raw materials to the factory from the moment it begins operation. Simultaneously, a seedling and tissue culture center will be established to provide high-yield, cost-effective seedlings to reforestation units in the area designated for the project.
Mr. Nguyen Cong Vinh, General Director of Thang Nam Forestry Joint Stock Company, suggested: “To ensure sufficient raw material supply for the project to operate at full design capacity and effectively, the company hopes that Nghe An province, relevant departments, and local authorities, along with the investor, will closely and synchronously coordinate the management of the planned raw material area. In this way, the company will be confident and committed to successfully implementing a sustainable raw material area in accordance with the approved project objectives.”
