At its peak, women fight for water
The prolonged heatwave in India has left many areas in the worst drought in decades and locals have resorted to all means, even fighting, to fight over water.
In recent weeks, temperatures in most northern Indian provinces have exceeded 40°C, especially in Rajasthan where temperatures have reached 51°C, the highest in Indian history and the third highest in the world.
Meanwhile, the Press Times of India quoted local officials as saying that the water level in dams in Marathwada was only about 1% and at least 36 farmers in the area had committed suicide within just one week.
