(Baonghean.vn) -Since the beginning of the hot season, the number of hospitalized children has tended to increase, including children with meningitis.

According to Dr. Nguyen Van Son, Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases at the Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, since the beginning of the hot season, the department has received 50 cases of patients diagnosed with meningitis, most of which are viral meningitis, but there are also cases of meningitis due to complications from mumps, chickenpox, hand, foot and mouth disease, etc. Viral meningitis has very diverse clinical manifestations, is not typical and depends on age. Patients often have symptoms similar to other respiratory infections such as fever, headache, nausea, vomiting.

Currently, the encephalitis epidemic is developing very strongly, so parents with young children need to pay attention to the hygiene of their children's living environment, eat well to increase resistance and take their children to get vaccinated to prevent future diseases.

Doctor Nguyen Van Son recommends: “At this time, when children have any symptoms similar to flu, runny nose, especially headaches and vomiting unrelated to meals, high fever, pain, difficulty moving the neck and fever-reducing medicine is not effective, parents need to take their children to the hospital for monitoring, diagnosis and early treatment, reducing the risk of dangerous complications for the child.”
