Hot weather, Nghe An farmers drill wells dozens of meters deep to water vegetables
(Baonghean.vn) - The hot weather in recent days has caused many vegetable fields of people in Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) to have reduced productivity due to drought; to overcome this situation, people have spent nearly ten million VND to drill wells in the fields to get water to irrigate vegetables.

To save water during the drought, people in Quynh Luong commune (Quynh Luu) are using pumps to spray water directly on vegetables instead of using automatic irrigation systems. However, due to the drought, many wells have dried up, not enough to meet the needs of vegetable production. Photo: Viet Hung |

To overcome the shortage of irrigation water, households have hired workers to drill wells right in the fields. Mr. Ho Van Minh in Hamlet 3, Quynh Luong Commune said: His family previously drilled 3 wells to irrigate nearly 2 sao of vegetables. However, this season, due to the hot weather of 37 - 38 degrees Celsius, there was a severe shortage of water. Therefore, the family hired workers to drill 2 more wells to have water for irrigation. For drilled wells, they must be drilled 7-10 meters deep to get water. As they drill, people put plastic pipes down until they reach water, then install them on the pump. Currently, a 750 KV pump can pump 5 water points at the foot of the field; the cost for 1 drill point when there is water is 300,000 - 330,000 VND. Photo: Viet Hung |
