NATO proposes Ukraine cede territory to Russia to join alliance
(Baonghean.vn) - NATO admits that ceding territories to Russia could be one of the possible ways for Ukraine to become a member of the alliance.

Ria Novosti quoted the Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang as saying that Stian Jensen, Chief of Staff of the NATO Secretary General, said that Ukraine could join NATO if it cedes territories to Russia.
“I think the only solution is for Ukraine to give up its territory in exchange for NATO membership,” said Stian Jensen, chief of staff to the NATO Secretary General.
Mr. Jensen emphasized that there has been significant progress on the issue of Ukraine becoming a member of the future military alliance. At the same time, Mr. Jensen also noted that ceding areas to Russia is a possible way to reach a compromise between the warring parties.
The issue of territorial transfers was raised at the alliance meeting, the head of the NATO Secretary General's office added. According to Mr. Jensen, everyone is interested in ensuring that military conflicts do not recur in Eastern Europe.
On July 12, at a press conference on the sidelines of the NATO summit in Lithuania, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said: “I believe that our allies will not betray us. However, I must emphasize that we will never give up territory, even a remote village, in exchange for NATO membership. We will not give up our territory, and will never trade it for a freeze of the conflict.”
