NATO sends fighter jets over Baltic Sea because of Russian aircraft

NATO Air Force fighter jets, which are performing missions over the airspace of the Baltic States, took off over the Baltic Sea once this week to identify and escort Russian aircraft, the Lithuanian Defense Ministry press service said.

Previously, the Russian Defense Ministry repeatedly stated that all flights of the Russian Air Force were carried out in accordance with international regulations on the use of airspace above neutral waters, without violating the air borders of other countries.

"From April 16 to 22, NATO Air Force fighter jets operating in the Baltic region took off once in international airspace over the Baltic Sea to escort Russian military aircraft," the Lithuanian Defense Ministry announced.

According to the Ministry's data, on April 16, NATO fighter jets identified and escorted the Russian IL-20, as it made a flight from the central part of the Russian Federation to the Kaliningrad region.
