NATO seeks to counter Russia's 'weaponization of information'
A newly leaked draft proposal says NATO could counter Russia's "weaponization of information," which was used to support actions such as the 2014 annexation of Crimea, by creating a stronger communications arm and declassifying more sensitive documents, Reuters reported.

Both NATO and the European Union (EU) are concerned about Russia’s ability to use television and the internet to spread what they consider disinformation. Last year, the EU set up a special unit to counter Russia’s overt propaganda campaign.
NATO's draft proposal outlines how military tactics, aimed at understanding opponents and then influencing foreign audiences, would become part of the alliance's new communications agency.
Despite the support of Britain and several other NATO member states, the US has expressed concern about any strategy that could be seen as false propaganda.
US officials say the credibility of NATO, an organization of 28 democracies, depends on transparency and honesty./.
