Russia will not participate in resolving disputes in the East Sea
(Baonghean.vn) - For decades, China has been involved in sovereignty disputes in the East Sea with a number of countries in the region. However, speaking at a short press conference on June 10, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said that Russia will refuse to intervene as a third party in resolving the dispute as well as in ensuring freedom of navigation and aviation in the East Sea.

According to Ms. Zakharova, participating as a third party mediator in disputed areas in the East Sea will only increase tensions in the region.
The statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman stated: "In principle, we do not take sides. All disputes in the East Sea need to be resolved through dialogue."
Currently, the most prominent actions in the East Sea are China's illegal reclamation of many reefs into artificial islands, and "militarization" of the islands they illegally occupy in Truong Sa (under Vietnam's sovereignty) by building runways that can be used as attack springboards for fighter jets and building bases for the navy.
These actions by China cannot be considered a bilateral issue of any two countries, but an international issue.
However, the statement of the Russian Foreign Ministry as above is completely not beneficial for small countries in the increasingly complicated dispute resolution battle today.
