January 19, opening of Con Temple festival
(Baonghean.vn) – According to plan, from January 19-21, Binh Than year (February 26-28, 2016), Hoang Mai Town People's Committee will organize the Con Temple Festival in the Spring of Binh Than year.
This is a traditional festival, one of the largest in Nghe An, held annually with diverse activities, attracting tens of thousands of tourists and locals to attend.

The Spring Festival of Con Temple, Binh Than 2016, will be held from January 19-21, Binh Than year (February 26-28, 2016) to maintain and develop advanced culture imbued with national identity, attract tourists to visit, admire, and meet the needs of exchange and learning about the spiritual life of the people.

This year's festival will be organized by the People's Committee of Hoang Mai town in a grand, solemn, safe, joyful, economical, and healthy manner in accordance with the regulations on festival organization of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, with many unique contents.

On January 19, there will be an art photo exhibition; on January 20, the festival will open. The Organizing Committee will hold sports competitions such as: Volleyball, stick pushing, boat racing, chess, Red-whiskered Bulbul Contest, Tug of War, net weaving and other folk games.

On January 21, the Festival holds many main and unique activities: Traditional fishing ceremony, joint sacrifice ceremony... boat racing on Mai Giang river.
Con Temple is located on Diec Hill, on the bank of Mai River, Quynh Phuong Commune. The temple was built in the 13th century and developed on a large scale under the Le Dynasty, and was restored many times under the Nguyen Dynasty. Since the Tran Dynasty, the temple was granted the title "National - Nam Hai Dai Can Thanh Nuong". Recorded in national history, sacred stories and passed down among the people, the temple is associated with the merit of supporting two wise kings of the Tran and Le dynasties, King Tran Anh Tong in 1312 and King Le Anh Tong in 1470, defeating the invaders and keeping the border peaceful. Con Temple is also famous for its geographical location, landscape, scientific and cultural values, and architectural harmony... The ancient Con Temple Festival is held annually by the people to pray for a year of calm weather, calm seas, good seafood catches, good fortune and peace; it is a traditional folk cultural activity imbued with local characteristics of the coastal villages in Quynh Luu. In 1997, the temple was recognized as a national monument by the Ministry of Culture and Information, and was restored and renovated in 1999. The Con Temple Festival was also restored. |
