Festival 'Youth and Traffic Culture' in Nghe An

Painful problem

Traffic accidents are currently a burning issue for the whole society. The consequences of traffic accidents not only affect each individual and each family but are also one of the major obstacles to the socio-economic development of the country and each locality.

In Vietnam, about 19 people die every day in traffic accidents; and nearly 1.7 times that number are injured in traffic accidents. According to the report of the Provincial Traffic Safety Committee, in the first 9 months of 2022, in Nghe An province, there were 115 traffic accidents that killed 77 people, injured 78 people, damaged 82 cars, 97 motorbikes and other vehicles.

In Thanh Chuong district alone, there were 8 traffic accidents that killed 8 people, injured 4 people, recorded 125 cases of alcohol concentration violations, 130 cases of speed violations and 84 cases of oversize and overload violations...

Direct causes of traffic accidents include non-compliance with traffic safety regulations due to violations of alcohol and drug concentrations; transporting goods that are overloaded or oversized; arbitrarily modifying vehicles; carrying more people than permitted; speeding; not wearing helmets.

2022 continues to be chosen as the year of traffic safety with the theme "Building a safe traffic culture associated with effective control of the COVID-19 epidemic" including 4 goals: raising awareness of self-compliance with the law and building a safe traffic culture; reducing traffic accidents by 5-10% in terms of the number of cases, deaths and injuries.

Overcome traffic congestion on main traffic routes, key traffic hubs, in large cities and avoid traffic congestion when controlling the epidemic, not allowing infection and outbreaks of disease in transportation activities.

Youth Union members are active propagandists.

Over the past time, the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee has always identified the activities of the Youth Union participating in propaganda and maintaining traffic order and safety as one of the key tasks of the Youth Union and youth movement.

In which, directing all levels of the Youth Union to continue promoting propaganda and education on traffic safety laws for young people in many forms; diversifying media products on prohibited behaviors when participating in traffic.

Effectively deploy the campaign "Youth with traffic culture"; Promote the role of the models "Safe school gate traffic", "Safe ferry terminal"; "Safe road - railway intersection"; Youth teams and groups participate in regulating and maintaining traffic order; commend typical youth with achievements in participating in ensuring traffic safety.

At the festival "Youth with traffic culture", on behalf of the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee, comrade Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union called on youth union members to promote their exemplary role and take the lead in implementing traffic safety laws.

Actively participate in the Campaign “Youth with traffic culture” focusing on specific and practical actions, such as: Do not drink alcohol when participating in traffic; wear standard helmets when participating in traffic; do not participate in illegal racing, drive in the correct lane and road section.

Each youth union member becomes an active propagandist to encourage young people and all classes of people to strictly comply with the provisions of the law and have good behavior and civilized conduct when participating in traffic; gradually building a friendly, humane and accident-free traffic society.

“Young people today must constantly strive to study, overcome difficulties and rise up; build for themselves a beautiful lifestyle, create the habit of behaving in a cultured and lawful manner; consider voluntary compliance with the law on ensuring traffic order and safety as an ethical standard for young people in the new era” - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Youth Union Nguyen Thi Phuong Thuy emphasized.

The Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee also requested that Youth Union, Association, and Pioneer chapters at all levels continue to strengthen advisory work for Party committees and authorities at all levels to strongly apply digital transformation in propaganda and education work, ensuring traffic order and safety.

On this occasion, to encourage and motivate disadvantaged students of Thanh Chuong 3 High School to strive to study well, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Youth Union and the Standing Committee of Thanh Chuong District Party Committee presented 10 gifts to 10 students, each worth 500,000 VND and 1 helmet. The Provincial Police also presented 10 gifts to 10 students, each worth 500,000 VND.

At the festival, the Standing Committee of Thanh Chuong District Youth Union introduced the youth team participating in ensuring traffic safety and order in Cat Ngan cluster.

A series of activities at the festival include: Communication contest "Students with traffic culture" 2022 at Thanh Chuong 3 High School. Golden Bell contest "Students with traffic culture" at Phong Thinh Secondary School.

Disseminate legal knowledge on traffic safety to youth union members and train safe driving skills at Thanh Chuong 3 High School and Phong Thinh Secondary School. Visit and present gifts to the Green - Clean - Beautiful - Traffic Safety road in Lien Chung hamlet, Phong Thinh commune (a commune that meets new rural standards).

The series of festivals "Youth and Traffic Safety" in 2022 was organized by the Provincial Youth Union Standing Committee in 4 districts: Thanh Chuong, Nam Dan, Quy Hop and Nghia Dan. Thereby, it aims to demonstrate the determination of the Youth Union chapters at all levels in the province, in contributing to joining hands with all levels and sectors to minimize traffic accidents.
