(Baonghean.vn) - After catching a large fish, suspected to be a moon fish - a rare fish listed in the Vietnam Red Book, fishermen in Quynh Phuong ward, Hoang Mai town released the fish back into the sea.

It is known that on the morning of September 6, Xuan Sang fishing boat and 16 fishermen from Hong Thai block, Quynh Phuong ward, while casting their nets at sea, caught a fish more than 2 meters long and weighing about 200 kg. Those on the boat all thought it was a moon fish.

Suspecting that the sunfish is a rare fish, once listed in the Vietnam Red Book, immediately after seeing the fish in the net, the fishermen decided to release the fish back into the sea with the hope of having better luck in the next trips.

A fisherman on the Xuan Sang boat said that half a month ago, the boat also caught a fish that looked like this one, but was smaller and was also released back into the sea immediately after being caught.

It is known that the ocean sunfish is large in size and has scientific and economic value. However, this species rarely appears in shallow seas. The ocean sunfish is a rare species that has been included in the Vietnam Red Book and it is recommended that people in coastal provinces ban fishing this fish species.
