(Baonghean.vn) - Chinese mustard greens have become a specialty dish in mountainous districts such as Anh Son and Con Cuong. Grasping the market demand, this winter crop, many farmers in Anh Son district have planted Chinese mustard greens on alluvial land for high income.

As one of the first households to grow mustard greens in Thach Son commune, these days Mr. Tran Van Hanh's family in village 6 is harvesting to bring to the market to sell.

Mr. Hanh shared: Previously, with an area of 8 sao of alluvial land, in the winter, his family often grew many types of vegetables, but now, consumers really like mustard greens, so his family has converted half of the area to grow this type of vegetable in the winter.

Limiting the use of pesticides, not spraying stimulants but making the most of manure, sprinkling kitchen ash to prevent aphids from harming vegetables, Mr. Hanh's family's vegetables are not enough to supply the market.

According to Mr. Hanh's experience, to have lush green mustard greens, when the vegetables grow about a hand's breadth above the ground, people do not cut the vegetables immediately but let them sprout new shoots, bud and bloom before harvesting.

Currently, vegetables are very expensive, from 15 - 20 thousand VND/kg, on average each day Mr. Hanh harvests from 1.5 to 2 tons of mustard greens, bringing his family an income of 250 - 300 thousand VND, he calculates that by the end of the season, after deducting all expenses, each sao will bring in an income of 7 - 8 million VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa's family in village 6, Thach Son commune, this winter crop also planted 2 sao of mustard greens on alluvial land. While harvesting vegetables, Ms. Hoa shared: Mustard greens are available everywhere, in every land, but mustard greens like those in Anh Son district are only available in a few areas.

Thanks to the fertile alluvial soil and the skillful care of the people, the mustard greens here are always green, sweet, crunchy and not too bitter, making anyone who has eaten them once unable to forget. Therefore, consumers are very fond of this mustard green variety.

According to Ms. Hoa, this mustard green variety only takes 2.5 months from planting to harvest, and is harvested daily, with an area of only 2 sao, each day also helps her family collect from 150 - 200 thousand VND.

This winter crop, the whole Anh Son district planted vegetables, beans, squash and pumpkins of all kinds with an area of 330 hectares.

Particularly for mustard greens, the communes of Thach Son, Tuong Son, Vinh Son, Duc Son grow them on a total area of 20 - 25 hectares. According to people's calculations, 1 hectare of mustard greens can bring them an income of 120 - 140 million VND/crop.

Chinese cabbage is mainly grown by Anh Son farmers in the winter on alluvial and sloping land. Currently, Anh Son district is encouraging people to expand the area to build specialized commodity production areas, contributing to the implementation of the policy of shifting crop structure, exploiting the potential advantages of the available area of the locality, creating good quality, clean products, bringing unique products of Anh Son district.
