Nghe An focuses on diversifying media types on gender equality
(Baonghean.vn) - In 2022, most of Nghe An's gender equality targets will be achieved and exceeded. However, gender equality work and activities for the province's progress still have limitations, requiring strong participation from all levels, sectors and localities.

On the afternoon of March 6, the Provincial People's Committee held a conference to deploy tasks on gender equality and activities for women's advancement in 2023. Attending were comrade Nguyen Thi Kim Chi - Member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Agencies Party Committee.
Comrades Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Head of the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women and Doan Hong Vu - Director of the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs, Permanent Deputy Head of the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women chaired the conference.
23/25 targets achieved and exceeded the plan
According to the report of the Provincial Committee for the Advancement of Women, in 2022, under the influence of the global economic downturn, complicated developments of epidemics, natural disasters, and floods,gender equality workand activities for women's advancement in Nghe An province have also promptly adjusted the content, form, and methods of operation to suit the practical situation for regular and widespread implementation in the province.
The Standing Agency has advised the Provincial People's Committee to issue key documents to meet the requirements and tasks set by the Central Government; contributing to narrowing the gender gap in the political, economic and social life of the province, enhancing the role and position of Nghe An women, creating favorable conditions for women to make practical contributions to the sustainable development of families, communities and society.
Thanks to that, 23/25 gender equality targets were achieved and exceeded the plan. In particular, many targets exceeded the set plan such as: The rate of victims of domestic violence detected and supported with one of the basic services reached 94.4% (145% of the plan); the rate of perpetrators of domestic violence detected at the level of not being prosecuted and being counseled and consulted was 90.2% (180.4% of the plan); the rate of ethnic minority boys and girls completing primary education was 98.21% (100.7%)...

However, there are still some limitations such as: Some local Party committees, authorities, leaders of some provincial departments, branches and sectors (especially the heads) are not really dedicated to this work. Some committees for the advancement of women in sectors and localities have not been operating regularly; some officials working on gender equality and women's advancement in sectors and localities have not been really close in advising on the implementation of targets and goals on gender equality and women's advancement in agencies, units and localities, so the quality and results of activities are not high.
Investment resources for gender equality and women's advancement activities from the state budget are still limited. Funding allocated for gender equality and women's advancement activities in some sectors and localities, especially at the grassroots level, is still limited and does not meet the requirements and tasks set out.
In 2022, 2/25 gender equality targets have not been achieved compared to the annual plan (accounting for 8%).
At the conference, delegates also shared experiences in implementing gender equality and activities for women's advancement in sectors and localities; proposed solutions to improve the effectiveness and quality of these activities.
Strengthen communication, raise awareness and responsibility
Speaking at the conference, Mr. Bui Dinh Long - Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee requested all levels, sectors and localities to continue to lead and direct the serious implementation of Directive 21-CT/TW dated January 20, 2018 of the Central Secretariat on strengthening the Party's leadership in gender equality work; National Strategy on Gender Equality for the 2021 - 2030 period; Program on Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence for the 2021 - 2025 period; Program on equal participation of women in leadership and management positions at all levels of policy making for the 2021 - 2030 period... Develop goals and planning targets with gender mainstreaming factors in the national target program on poverty reduction, new rural areas, health, education, employment, and in the appraisal of investment projects.

Along with that, it is necessary to strengthen communication work to raise awareness and responsibility of families, communities and society in implementing gender equality and women's advancement, especially leaders and managers and men. In particular, promote the application of digital technology, diversify forms and products in communication work on gender equality, prevention and response to gender-based violence and activities for women's advancement.
In addition, continue to promote the role and responsibility of Party committees and authorities at all levels in directing and implementing gender equality and women's advancement work, focusing on inter-sectoral coordination between state management agencies and socio-political organizations in developing, implementing, inspecting, examining and supervising the implementation of gender equality policies.
Organize training courses and seminars on solutions to raise awareness, change prejudices and effectively solve urgent problems of women and children in localities; provide training in communication skills, psychological counseling, legal aid, service connection and skills to work with people who commit gender-based violence.
Improve knowledge and skills on gender equality, for the advancement of women, and prevention of gender-based violence for gender equality workers in various fields, sectors, organizations, units, enterprises, and localities; female leaders and managers; women in the planning for leadership and management positions at all levels, female delegates to People's Councils at all levels; enhance women's economic empowerment, increase access for poor women in rural areas, ethnic minority women to economic resources, the labor market, etc.
