As one of the localities most severely affected by heavy rains, according to a report by the Do Luong District Agricultural Service Center, up to this point in the district, nearly 486 hectares of rice have fallen and fallen; over 90 hectares of crops have been damaged.

“The district has directed communes to advise and mobilize people to gather in the fields. In areas that have been heavily damaged, drain the water, tie and prop up the rice plants, especially in areas where the rice plants are still in the milky ripe stage and will not be harvested for another 15-20 days.

With more than 90 hectares of crops, mainly corn in the flowering period, farmers removed the heavily broken areas for cattle to eat. The remaining areas that could still be repaired were drained to plant trees," said Mr. Nguyen Kim Ngoc.

Heavy rain and strong winds also caused nearly 300 hectares of rice in Hung Nguyen district to fall.

Ms. Phan Thi Giang, an expert from the district's Department of Agriculture, said: The district has assigned communes and towns to direct agricultural officials and part-time agricultural extension and plant protection officers to notify and guide farmers to urgently concentrate human resources to tie and erect fallen spring rice fields, minimizing the impact on rice productivity.

At the same time, according to the forecast for this summer-autumn crop, there is a possibility of drought occurring early. In order to proactively deploy production, it is recommended that farmers do not drain the water in the fields when tying or erecting fallen or fallen rice plants or when harvesting spring rice to take advantage of the available water in the fields.

By the afternoon of May 9, Dien Thai commune (Dien Chau) had harvested about 50/370 hectares of spring rice.

According to Ms. Dinh Thi Trang - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, within the next 2-3 days, Dien Thai will finish harvesting. "We are calling on harvester owners to speed up the progress. The whole commune has more than 3 hectares of rice that was broken due to heavy rains and has been harvested; currently, the water source is abundant, so people are taking advantage of the opportunity to harvest spring rice and plant summer-autumn seedlings," Ms. Dinh Thi Trang shared.

With the viewpoint of “green at home is better than ripe in the field” in adverse weather conditions, in recent days, Dien Chau district has focused on directing quick and neat harvesting on areas of rice that are 90% or more ripe. The entire district has 123 hectares of rice affected, of which 22 hectares suffered heavy damage of over 70%; 15 hectares of corn were overturned.

According to Mr. Le The Hieu - Head of the District's Agriculture Department, by the afternoon of May 9, Dien Chau had harvested over 100 hectares of rice in the communes of Minh Chau, Dien Thai, Dien Nguyen... and in the next 2-3 days, they will continue to direct the harvesting of ripe rice areas.

“We have just been affected by heavy rain, while according to the province's schedule, from May 10, the main canal system will be closed to construct the project to restore and upgrade the Northern Nghe An irrigation system, so we prioritize early rice harvest, both to have water for the harvester and to facilitate the immediate sowing of summer-autumn rice, racing against the floods and storms at the end of the summer-autumn crop,” said Mr. Le The Hieu.

On the afternoon and evening of May 7, in Nghe An province, due to the influence of cold air, there was rain, tornadoes, and strong gusts of wind.

According to a quick report from the Standing Office of the Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense, as of 10:00 a.m. on May 9, Nghe An had nearly 1,800 hectares of agricultural production affected, including more than 1,640 hectares of rice and 140 hectares of corn and other crops.

Of which, nearly 150 hectares of rice were severely damaged, with a rate of over 70%, mainly in Do Luong, Dien Chau districts, Vinh city...; the area of ​​rice damaged at a level of 30-70% was more than 480 hectares, mainly in Do Luong district 340 hectares, Tan Ky over 63 hectares... Nearly 60 hectares of crops were damaged from 30% to 70% and over 63 hectares were severely damaged, a rate of over 70%, of which Do Luong district over 52 hectares, Dien Chau 6 hectares...

Currently, rice fields in the province are in the waxy, milky and fully ripe stages. For areas of immature rice that have not been harvested, to avoid the situation of rice sprouting on the stem and rotting grains, people need to focus on erecting and tying ropes; harvest areas that are 80% or more ripe if the rice fields are flattened. With corn, if it has been harvested, focus on harvesting, if it is still young, cut it down to feed cattle and buffalo; at the same time, use technical care measures to help the vegetable area recover, if the damage is too severe, destroy it and replant."
