(Baonghean.vn) -Low-quality bamboo and rattan weaving workers, products that do not meet design and quality requirements, low income, so this profession is at risk of fading away.in Nghe An.
The report of the Nghe An Province Cooperative Union shows that the province and the Central Government are encouraging craft villages to establish economic organizations, enterprises, and cooperatives to act as midwives to take care of stable output for products. Bamboo and rattan craft villages have produced many export products for the province, meeting the labor needs of nearly 3,000 workers in the localities, contributing to increasing income for workers, ensuring social security, eliminating hunger, reducing poverty, and reducing social evils.

On the morning of March 30, the Provincial Cooperative Union coordinated with Duc Phong Company Limited to discuss solutions to remove difficulties for the bamboo and rattan weaving industry in craft villages in the province. Attending the meeting were leaders of the Departments of Industry and Trade, Finance, Planning and Investment, Agriculture and Rural Development, districts with MTD craft and craft villages. |
The province currently has 44 MTD craft villages, but of these, 5 are operating poorly and 8 have stopped operating.
The reason is that some Party committees and authorities have not paid close attention to the development of craft villages;
The scale of craft villages is still small, scattered, with low investment capital, outdated technology, and little attention paid to building brands, labels, and consumer markets. Although workers in craft villages are trained, their skills are generally low, productivity and product quality are not high, and income is low, which has not attracted a large number of workers in the localities.

Mr. Bach Quang Huynh - Head of Phong Anh MTD craft village, Nghi Phong commune, Nghi Loc district, said that because the income of MTD workers is much lower than other occupations, the MTD profession is fading away. Photo: Xuan Hoang |
At the workshop, Duc Phong Company Limited, a unit specializing in supplying raw materials and purchasing and exporting MTD products, said: The export market for MTD products is large, currently the Company is exporting directly to the following countries: England, Germany, Italy, France, Netherlands, Sweden, Denmark, Chile, China, Japan, Korea and the US.
However, MTD products currently do not meet export demand, because the labor in craft villages is patchwork and increasingly fading; lack of synchronous machinery, so labor efficiency is not high, income is low.
Representatives of localities and MTD craft villages said: Currently, there are many companies and factories operating in localities, so the young labor force goes to work in companies, leaving the elderly at home to do the job. Due to low labor quality and poor skills, the products do not meet the requirements of design and quality, leading to low income (average from 1.5 million - 1.7 million VND/person/month).
The input materials are high, sometimes not enough for people to work… so workers are discouraged with MTD profession. Localities have not paid attention to the allowance regime for the management board of craft villages, so the operation is not effective.

Therefore, the solution to develop craft villages and villages with MTD craft in the coming time, according to businesses, local authorities and related sectors, is to: In the immediate future, improve workers' skills, plan stable raw material areas, support finding consumer markets, focus on quality, design, labeling, and invest in technology.
At the same time, strengthen the leadership of the Party, the management of local authorities and the coordinating role of the Fatherland Front and organizations at all levels to implement support policies to develop craft villages and villages with MTD crafts. Effectively use local labor resources; link vocational development with tourism to develop handicraft products. Strengthen and improve the quality of vocational training for workers, associated with solving local employment.
