Nghe An: Support fishermen with mobile water pumps to prevent fires and explosions on fishing boats
(Baonghean.vn) - To minimize the risk of boat fires and limit damage to people and property, Quynh Luu district (Nghe An) has supported fishermen with mobile water pumps that can respond immediately when a fishing boat fire is detected.

Mr. Nguyen Van Uoc - Chairman of Tien Thuy Commune People's Committee said: Previously, there were a number of ship fires. Due to the lack of specialized water pumps, people had to spend a lot of time drawing water, connecting household pumps to pull hoses onto the ship to put out the fire, but it was ineffective. When the fire truck arrived, the fire had spread and the ship was burned down. Equipped with these two pumps, it will be a powerful support tool for the locality in responding to ship fires. The commune assigned members of the Fire Prevention, Fire Fighting and Rescue Team at the Song Hau boat mooring wharf to operate this pump to control the fire when a fire or explosion was detected on the ship.
Quynh Luu district has nearly 1,200 vessels, including more than 700 vessels with a capacity of over 90 CV, each worth billions of VND. If a vessel fire occurs, the damage will be huge. Notably, in 2019, at Lach Quen port, Tien Thuy commune (Quynh Luu), there were two consecutive fires in fishing vessels of fishermen from Son Hai commune, Quynh Nghia, causing billions of VND in damage. The cause of the vessel fire was determined to be an electrical short circuit.

To limit the loss of life and property on board, Quynh Luu district supported 4 coastal communes Tien Thuy, Quynh Nghia, Son Hai, Quynh Thuan, each commune with 2 pumps with a total value of 600 million VND. Currently, Tien Thuy commune is fully equipped with 2 pumps, the remaining communes each have 1 pump and are continuing to balance the budget to equip more.
It is known that the mobile water pump uses gasoline to operate. When there is a fire, the machine can take water from the sea or from nearby rivers to spray on the fire. The machine's operating capacity is from 40 - 45 m3water/hour, water from the nozzle can exceed the ship so the chance of controlling the fire outbreak is very high./.
