MORE THAN 450 BILLION VND TO CARE FOR TET FOR THE POOR

In recent years, along with the leadership, direction and management of socio-economic development, Nghe An province has always paid special attention to hunger eradication and poverty reduction. The movement "The whole country joins hands for the poor - leaving no one behind" has been widely deployed, rich in humanity with many charitable deeds, noble gestures spread, and has been participated by many agencies, units, businesses, philanthropists and people of all walks of life.

2021 is the first year of implementing the Resolution of the Party Congresses at all levels for the 2020-2025 term and the 5-year Socio-Economic Development Plan for 2021-2025. In the context of many difficulties and challenges, especially the complicated developments of the Covid-19 pandemic, which have had negative impacts and greatly affected all aspects of life, economy and society.

Speaking at the program, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Duc Trung emphasized that with the high determination and great efforts of the political system, the consensus and sharing of the people and the business community, the province has been proactive and active, focusing on both preventing the Covid-19 epidemic and developing the economy, ensuring social security and achieving many positive results.

However, 2021 has passed, but there are still existing difficulties, people's lives, especially in mountainous, remote, border areas, islands, coastal areas, flooded areas are at risk of poverty, recurring poverty. Up to now, according to the new poverty standards, the whole province still has more than 66,000 poor households, over 56,000 near-poor households and over 100,000 workers facing many difficulties when returning to their hometowns to avoid the Covid-19 epidemic.

The Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee affirmed that Nghe An province always identifies hunger eradication and poverty reduction as a strategic, long-term task, and one of the important criteria and measures to evaluate the implementation of social security policies. With the fine tradition of Nghe An people, the Tet for the poor program in recent years has called for a total amount of more than 450 billion VND to take care of Tet for hundreds of thousands of poor households.

For the Lunar New Year 2021 alone, the whole province mobilized more than 96 billion VND, giving gifts to more than 34,000 poor households, more than 84,600 near-poor households, policy families, and social protection beneficiaries, with an average value of at least 500,000 VND per gift.

Responding to the Appeal Letter of the Provincial Party Secretary on supporting and helping poor households to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2022, on behalf of the provincial leaders, Comrade Nguyen Duc Trung called on all levels, sectors, enterprises, businessmen, philanthropists, organizations and individuals inside and outside the province, and audiences watching TV to continue to support and help the poor in the spirit of "Joining hands for the poor - Leaving no one behind", especially during the coming New Year and spring; Continue to make more practical contributions to poverty reduction work in the coming time.

According to a quick summary from the program's Organizing Committee, as of 9:30 p.m. on January 11, 2022, the amount of money that units, businesses, organizations, philanthropists... supported and registered to support Tet for the poor in the Year of the Tiger 2022 was more than 121 billion VND./.
