Speaking at the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed his joy at welcoming overseas Vietnamese back to visit the Fatherland. Having lived, studied and worked abroad, far from home, the Prime Minister understands the feelings of Vietnamese people when Tet comes, Spring comes, and when the country has events.

The Prime Minister shared: "When far away from the Fatherland, I always think of the call of my homeland, the call of my parents, the call of memories, of simple meals, of the sound of cicadas, of crickets, of village roads, of street corners, of beloved houses, of hardships and difficulties during the war, when the country was still poor, of contributions and dedication to the homeland... guiding us back to our homeland, to our country.

Those are memories that live forever and are passed down from generation to generation of our compatriots living and working far from the Fatherland."

The origin of Vietnam always exists in the heart of every Vietnamese person, no matter where they are on this earth, "Each person has only one homeland/ Just like only one mother".

The Prime Minister spoke at the meeting.

Each of us looks forward to the day we can return to burn incense before our ancestors, gather with family and friends, and look back at familiar images that are deeply imprinted in the thoughts and actions of those far from home and the Fatherland.

On behalf of the Party and State leaders, the Prime Minister sends his warm regards, warm greetings and best wishes to all overseas Vietnamese.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the overseas Vietnamese present here today are much luckier and happier than many compatriots who have not been able to return home due to the impact of the pandemic. The Party and the State understand, share and always take responsibility to make the "road home closer", to make the homeland truly "a cluster of sweet star fruit"; a home, a place where all traditional values, intelligence, heart, aspirations, respect for differences... are gathered to build a strong and prosperous country, so that we can be proud to be Vietnamese on the world map.

The Party and State have always paid attention to and encouraged other countries to create favorable conditions for Vietnamese people to live and prevent and fight the Covid-19 epidemic; organized many rescue flights and commercial flights to bring more than 200,000 Vietnamese people home over the past two years.

The Prime Minister affirmed that the country's important achievements were thanks to the timely and effective leadership and direction of the Party and State and the drastic participation of the entire political system.

Expressing gratitude for the contributions of overseas Vietnamese, the head of the Government said that their great contributions are not only reflected in more than 80 billion VND and thousands of ventilators, tens of thousands of doses of vaccines and many other medical equipment, but also in the contribution of knowledge and experience, demonstrating creativity and advising the Government in both preventing and fighting the epidemic and effectively recovering and developing the socio-economy.

"In particular, some of our compatriots abroad have put aside their work and life abroad to return to Vietnam, volunteered to participate in the front line of the fight against the epidemic and done many things of great humanitarian significance...", the Prime Minister emphasized.

To continue the achievements in 2021 and strive for the goals set for 2022, the Prime Minister said that it is necessary to promote the combined strength and the strength of national solidarity, in which the contributions, sharing, and active participation of overseas Vietnamese are very important resources.

The Government will have solutions to realize the goal of “Closer Road Home”. The Government and the Prime Minister resolutely direct ministries, branches and agencies to continue to propose comprehensive solutions to care for and support people, especially in difficult areas, creating favorable conditions for people to have a solid legal status, stabilize their lives and integrate into the host society.

The Government continues to improve the effectiveness of citizen protection, labor and student management, encourage agencies and associations to organize Vietnamese language teaching abroad, strengthen connections between Vietnamese individuals and organizations abroad and in the country to contribute to national development and fulfill responsibilities to the international community.

The Party and State will continue to improve and develop policies to mobilize resources, listen, and create a favorable environment for overseas Vietnamese to contribute their intelligence, attract brainpower, and aspirations to develop the country.

In the immediate future, the Government will continue to work with other countries to soon reopen more commercial flights, making it easier for people to return home; continue to request airlines to expand flights to many places in the world, to many localities of other countries to make travel easier. Regarding the opinions and recommendations of the people, the Government will pay attention and consider resolving them.

With the spirit that overseas Vietnamese “are an inseparable part of the Vietnamese ethnic community”, the Prime Minister requested relevant ministries, branches and agencies to continue to seriously, effectively, comprehensively and more strongly implement the work of overseas Vietnamese.
