Summer-autumn crop - this season, the whole province planted more than 79 thousand hectares of rice. Currently, the rice fields are in the tillering stage, in which many rice areas are infected with leaf rollers. Yen Thanh district currently has 3,200 hectares of summer-autumn rice infected with the fourth generation of leaf rollers.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy, Block 1, Yen Thanh Town, Yen Thanh District said: My family has more than 3 sao of rice, planted early, currently in the tillering stage. But currently, many rice fields are infected with the 4th generation of young leaf rollers, with quite a high density. I bought pesticides to spray myself but it still doesn't go away. In the future, if the 5th generation of young leaf rollers is more numerous, my family will buy pesticides to spray according to the instructions of the professional agency.
According to data from the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, recently, the fourth generation of leaf rollers has caused damage at high density and over a large area in many districts in the province. The total area infected with the fourth generation is over 15 thousand hectares, of which over 1,000 hectares are heavily infected; the common density is 20 - 50 insects/m2, in some places it is 100 - 150 insects/m2.

Staff of Yen Thanh Plant Protection Station coordinate with local authorities to regularly visit fields and monitor the development of small leaf rollers to guide farmers in timely spraying. |
Localities have promptly organized and directed spraying to eliminate over 5,700 hectares with high density of worms. Currently, the 4th generation of adult worms has fully emerged and the 5th generation of worms has begun to appear. It is forecasted that the 1st and 2nd instar larvae of the 5th generation will fully bloom between July 18 and 23. This is the generation of worms that can develop at high density, over a large area, greatly affecting the growth and development of summer-autumn rice. In particular, the 5th generation of worms will have overlapping generations, so the damage caused by the larvae will be prolonged.
The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development directs the People's Committees of districts, cities, towns, and the Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to focus on directing local functional departments and branches to closely follow the grassroots to organize propaganda and direct farmers to promptly prevent and control the fifth generation of small leaf rollers.
