Nghe An: Prosecution of gambling ring in remote area

(Baonghean.vn) - On November 23, Tan Ky District Police (Nghe An) announced that the unit had just initiated a case and prosecuted 9 subjects for gambling, all residing in Tien Ky commune.

Accordingly, the General Investigation Team (DTTH) of Tan Ky District Police received many reports from the public about the appearance of a number of people gathering to gamble in the form of shaking dice on a large scale, with many participants.

They often gather in the border area between Tien Ky commune, Tan Ky district and Binh Son commune, Anh Son district (which are remote communes of the two districts) to gamble.

They took advantage of the high mountainous terrain, and organized gambling dens on the edge of hills, halfway up hills, and on rugged and dangerous roads, making it difficult for the police to fight and destroy them. The subjects also assigned and arranged guards and lookouts at the three-way and four-way intersections leading to the "dens" of gamblers.

During the investigation and monitoring process, at around 8:00 p.m. on November 16, Tan Ky District Police continued to receive information from the public that a group of people were organizing gambling in the form of dice shaking behind the house of Le Van Kiem (born in 1968) in Tien Ky Commune, Tan Ky District.

Realizing that the opportunity had come, at around 11 pm the same day, after neutralizing the lookouts, the detectives simultaneously rushed in to control and catch 11 subjects gambling on the gambling mat. The police seized over 15 million VND in cash and some related evidence.

After screening and consolidating all documents and evidence, the District Police had sufficient grounds to identify 9 subjects directly involved in gambling. They are: Le Van Kiem (homeowner), Dang Nhu Thiet (born in 1987), residing in Dinh Son commune, Anh Son district; Nguyen Dinh Phi (born in 1988), Nguyen Dinh Quynh (born in 1998) and Nguyen Dinh Cong (born in 1974), all residing in Binh Son commune, Anh Son district; Nguyen Van Que (born in 1990), Nguyen Van Tan (born in 1981), Tran Van Lan (born in 1968) and Nguyen Van Dao (born in 1998), all residing in Hamlet 6, Tien Ky commune.

At the police station, the subjects initially admitted their crimes. Gambling in the form of dice shaking, each game was at least 200,000 VND, the owner collected the money. At 11 pm the same day, they were caught red-handed by the police force.

Tan Ky district police have recorded statements and consolidated documents to handle the subjects before the law.
