Nghe An: Remittances reached nearly half a billion USD in 2016

(Baonghean.vn) - COn the afternoon of February 2, the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Fatherland Front Committee of the province organized the program "Meeting with overseas Vietnamese from Nghe An returning to their homeland to welcome the Spring of Dinh Dau 2017".

Attending the meeting were comrades: Nguyen Dac Vinh - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Nguyen Xuan Son - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Nguyen Xuan Duong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee; Nguyen Van Thong - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

Also attending were comrades in the Provincial Party Standing Committee, representatives of provincial departments, branches and sectors, and more than 200 overseas Vietnamese from Nghe An returning to their homeland to celebrate the Lunar New Year 2017.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Nguyen Xuan Duong happily informed the overseas Vietnamese about some key features of the province's socio-economic development in 2016 with outstanding results such as: Nghe An's growth rate reached 7.5%; budget revenue reached over 11,000 billion VND; 133 new projects/ total registered capital of 33,765.48 billion VND; newly issued business registration certificates for 1,874 enterprises; creating new jobs for 37,860 workers...

In 2016, the amount of remittances sent back to the country by overseas Vietnamese from Nghe An was about 445 million USD, making it one of the localities with the largest amount of remittances in the country. Currently, in the province, there are about 10 projects invested by Nghe An businessmen abroad with a total registered capital of nearly 7,000 billion VND, creating jobs for local workers, contributing to the structural shift and overall socio-economic development of the whole province.

In the warm and joyful atmosphere of the first days of the new year, Provincial Party Secretary Nguyen Dac Vinh respectfully thanked the overseas Vietnamese for their affection for their relatives living in Nghe An, for the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Provincial Fatherland Front Committee, as well as for the poor, people affected by natural disasters and misfortunes in Nghe An.

The Provincial Party Secretary affirmed that Nghe An's success is due to the great contribution of Nghe An compatriots abroad, and emphasized: "The remittance of 445 million USD is a large financial source, supporting the development of the province, and the province's task is to try to make the most effective use of financial resources, creating a favorable investment environment for investors."

“In 2017 and the following years, Nghe An people living abroad, after stabilizing their lives and overcoming difficulties and barriers in a foreign land, will return to invest in Nghe An, to have more new projects and advanced technology to contribute to the development of their homeland,” the Provincial Party Secretary hopes.

Sharing at the meeting, many overseas Vietnamese were moved and thanked the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, and Vietnam Fatherland Front for organizing a meaningful meeting for those far from home, and at the same time expressed their thoughts that overseas Vietnamese are an inseparable part of the Nghe An community in particular and the Vietnamese people in general. The delegates promised to continue to make more contributions, bringing the image of their homeland and country to friends around the world, and contributing more to the sustainable development of their homeland.

On this occasion, 9 collectives and individuals with outstanding achievements in foreign affairs activities of Nghe An people abroad and active contributions to helping people affected by natural disasters and floods in Nghe An were honored to receive Certificates of Merit from the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.
