(Baonghean.vn) - Although Nghe An province is the locality with the most complicated African swine fever outbreak, some households in Thanh Chuong district still secretly dump dead pigs into the environment, increasing the risk of spreading the disease.

According to the reporter's records, on the morning of April 5, on the road to Phuong ferry, Thanh Yen commune, districtThanh Chuong, there are many dead pigs thrown under the bridge.

Among them was a pig weighing about 70kg in the process of decomposing, a piglet and a sack of pigs (unknown number of pigs inside) floating on the water, emitting a foul smell.

Mr. Phan Van Quang, a resident of Thanh Yen commune, said: "This road leads to Phuong ferry connecting the two banks of the river, so the traffic is very heavy every day. Therefore, it is likely that the person who dumped the pig chose the night when few people passed by to carry out his act."

It is worth mentioning that Thanh Yen commune has had an outbreak.swine feverSince early April 2021, nearly 2 tons of pigs have been destroyed in Africa in a short period of time. Local authorities have also completely banned the trading and slaughtering of pigs, especially the dumping of dead pigs into the environment. However, some households still deliberately violate the law.

Mr. Bui Huu Chuong - Chairman of the Commune People's CommitteeThanh YenIt is reported that people have been dumping pig carcasses into the environment and the commune has directed the authorities to retrieve them and destroy them according to procedures.

"It is very difficult to identify the people who dump pigs because they often go during off-peak hours and at night, so we will increase our forces on duty and patrol. If they are discovered, we will strictly handle them according to regulations," Mr. Chuong added.

Not only Thanh Yen commune but also in the communeThanh Linh- one of the hottest areas for African swine fever in Thanh Chuong district, also saw dead pigs dumped in the middle of the river in recent days.

Mr. Nguyen Van Phu - Thanh Linh commune militia said: In early April, a dead pig weighing nearly 100 kg appeared in Trai river, however, it was very difficult to determine the household that dumped the pig because Trai river flows through Thanh Huong, Thanh Thinh communes and then Thanh Linh, so the pig also followed the water flow down. Immediately after discovering the dead pig, we immediately proceeded to destroy it according to the correct procedure.

It is known that all hamlets of Thanh Linh commune have African swine fever, the number of pigs destroyed in the commune is nearly 10 tons.

Although dead pigs that are reported to local authorities for destruction will be subsidized, according to the reporter's investigation, the current mentality of some households when seeing dead pigs is to hide the disease because they are afraid that reporting will cause the whole herd to be destroyed (especially in the condition that pig prices are very high while compensation prices are much lower), so they choose to throw away the dead pigs and separate the live ones to continue taking care of them.
