Nghe An: Heavy rain causes localized flooding and landslides in some localities

(Baonghean.vn) - Heavy rain in the past 2 days due to the influence of storm No. 2 has caused localized flooding and landslides in some localities.

* According to a quick report from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Nghe An province, as of 7:30 p.m. on August 2, 2020, due to the influence of storm No. 02 with the international name SINLAKU, there was moderate to heavy rain in Nghe An, some places had very heavy rain and thunderstorms, the common rainfall, from 7:00 p.m. on July 31 to 1:00 p.m. on August 2, 2020, was commonly from 70-200mm.

* Due to the impact of storm No. 02 combined with heavy rain, the traffic infrastructure in Nghe An province as of 4:30 p.m. on August 2, 2020 has been affected as follows:

+National Highway 48E:There is 01 flooded spillway: At spillway Km59+950 (Nghia Binh commune, Nghia Dan district): Flooded 0.40 m (at 1:00 p.m. on August 2, 2020).

+ National Highway 48D: There are 02 flooded points: at Km 112+050 - Km 112+450: Flooded 0.6 m from 4:15 p.m. on August 2, 2020; at Km 130+00 (Chau Thanh Commune, Quy Hop District): Flooded 0.1 m (at 1:15 p.m. on August 2, 2020)

+Provincial road544: There are 02 flooded spillways: At spillway Km23+850 (Chau Phong Commune, Quy Chau District): Flooded 1.5 m (spillow closed at 15:25 on August 2, 2020); At spillway Km 25+250: Flooded 0.4 m (spillow closed at 16:20 on August 2, 2020).

The impact of storm No. 2, continuous rain on August 2 flooded some rice fields in the communes of Minh Son, Thai Son, Quang Son of Do Luong district.

In Do Luong town, heavy rain caused flooding in the Green Garden urban area and the District Post Office intersection, making it difficult for people and vehicles to travel. On the afternoon of August 2, there were sections of road in Do Luong town where the water was 50-60 cm deep, and some houses on both sides of the town intersection were flooded to the floor.

If it continues to rain heavily tonight and tomorrow, it is expected to cause flooding in many places in Do Luong area.

On the afternoon of August 2, speaking with Nghe An Newspaper reporter, Mr. Ngan Van Chin - Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Nhoong commune,Que Phongsaid: Heavy rain lasted for many hours, flooded over 15 hectares of rice in Nhot Nhong and Na Hoc villages; caused landslides, causing rocks and soil to overflow and break Mr. Ngan Van Tho's house pillar, fortunately no one was injured.

Immediately after the incident, the leaders of Nam Nhong commune mobilized militia and self-defense forces to help clean up for Mr. Ngan Van Tho's family.

"The commune is mobilizing households in areas prone to flooding and landslides to move to safe places," Mr. Ngan Van Chin added.

Heavy rain also caused about 100 hectares of rice fields and fish ponds in Tri Le and Que Phong communes to be flooded. In addition, some communes were also flooded at spillway points.

InQuy Hop district,Localized heavy rains have also caused flooding in many places. Mr. Quan Vi Giang - Head of the District's Department of Agriculture and Rural Development said: On the afternoon of August 2, in the communes of Chau Cuong, Chau Dinh, Chau Quang... there was prolonged heavy rain. The rain caused flooding across many roads and about 100 hectares of rice.

"By late afternoon, the rain had subsided, but due to water pouring in from upstream, many roads were still flooded," said Mr. Quan Vi Giang.

As of 5:00 p.m. on August 2, many spillways in Quy Chau district were flooded. For example, on Provincial Road 544 from Tan Lac town to Chau Hoan commune, Quy Chau district currently has 2 locations in Chau Phong commune that are flooded with water 1.5 - 1.7 m deep. According to the report of Quy Chau district People's Committee, until late this afternoon, it was still raining heavily, and 16 spillways in the district were deeply flooded. The communes with spillways deeply flooded include: Chau Thang, Chau Hanh, Chau Thuan, Chau Nga...

Mr. Lo Van The - Head of the Economic Infrastructure Department of Quy Chau district said: Faced with that situation, the People's Committee of Quy Chau district coordinated with traffic management units on provincial and national roads to direct the establishment of barrier posts and assign forces to be on duty 24/7 to prevent people from passing through.

Also at this time, on Highway 48E, Nghia Binh Commune (Nghia Dan), the spillway at km 58+950 was flooded about 0.5m deep, very dangerous for people and vehicles passing by. The traffic management unit has set up fences and prohibition signs, coordinating with local authorities to prevent people from crossing the spillway from being flooded.

Heavy rain, in addition to flooding the bridges, Nghe An also has many places at risk of landslides, not ensuring traffic safety for people passing by, so localities need to increase forces to guard and warn people to travel safely during the rainy season./.
