(Baonghean.vn) - Mr. Tran Minh Quan - Acting Head of the Veterinary Station of Quynh Luu District (Nghe An) said that up to this point, the whole district has discovered 4 outbreaks of H5N6 avian influenza and is the first district in Nghe An to have an epidemic.

After avian influenza outbreaks were detected in Quynh Hong, Quynh Ba, and Quynh Hau communes, on February 13, an outbreak occurred in Quynh Hung commune (Quynh Luu) and the birds were destroyed.

Accordingly, from February 9 to 11, Mr. Nguyen Van Bac's family in Hamlet 7, Quynh Hung Commune discovered that their livestock had stopped eating and were dying, and immediately reported it to the local authorities. After receiving the news, officials from the Agriculture and Veterinary Departments of the commune and district came to collect samples for testing. On February 13, samples taken from the infected livestock at Mr. Nguyen Van Bac's household tested positive for the H5N6 avian virus, forcing the entire herd of 161 geese and ducks to be destroyed.

The entire Quynh Hung commune has nearly 32,000 poultry raised in many farms and in families. After the H5N6 flu outbreak occurred in the area, the local government directed agricultural staff and the commune's Veterinary Department to focus on spraying disinfectants and have now sprayed 12 liters of chemicals at the epidemic site and neighboring hamlets. At the same time, the commune reported to the district's Veterinary Station to request more chemicals to continue spraying to prevent the epidemic.

The commune also recommends that people not be subjective and urgently take epidemic prevention measures such as: not trading or transporting poultry in epidemic areas in and out of the area; cleaning barns and using lime powder to spread around the livestock area to prevent avian influenza outbreaks.

Up to this point, the entire Quynh Luu district has discovered 4 outbreaks of H5N6 avian influenza, mainly originating from small, medium and small-scale farms. From February 7 to 14, the total poultry flock affected by the epidemic had to be destroyed: 464 birds, including geese and ducks; in addition, the total amount of chemicals sprayed to prevent the disease on poultry flocks is more than 100 liters and is currently continuing to be supplemented for localities to proactively spray to prevent the disease.
