Nghe An summarizes the 8th National Sports Congress in 2018

The 8th National Sports Festival was held in November and December 2018 in Hanoi. Nghe An Sports Delegation had 219 members participating in 114 competitions of 14/36 sports. Including 26 officials, 28 coaches, 165 athletes led by Ms. Nguyen Thi Thanh Huong - Deputy Director of the Department of Culture & Sports.

At the end of the 8th National Sports Congress in 2018, Nghe An Sports delegation won 8 gold medals, 9 silver medals and 21 bronze medals, ranked 19th out of 65 provincial, municipal and industry sports delegations nationwide, and received a Certificate of Merit from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Although not reaching the target of ranking 13-15th overall, Nghe An Sports Delegation has tried its best, overcoming difficulties and pressure to bring back certain achievements and marks.

Of which, the Weightlifting category won 3 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 1 bronze medal, the Sepak Takraw category won 2 gold medals, 1 gold medal and 2 bronze medals. Men's football, with the U21 SLNA team as the core, excellently won the Silver Medal. Individually, athlete Le Thi Tham (Weightlifting) contributed 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal and broke 2 records of the Games, athlete Pham Thi Hong Thanh won 1 gold medal, 2 silver medals.

At the closing ceremony, the Department of Culture and Sports also pointed out some limitations such as: the achievements have not been commensurate with the province's potential; the expected athletes' competitive mentality is not stable; the training and injury treatment facilities have not met the requirements; there is no policy to retain excellent athletes and attract talented athletes to compete for Nghe An. Many issues were also considered, such as the orientation to develop key sports; the need to strengthen the nutritional regime; increase the treatment and reward regime for coaches and athletes. Gradually perfect the mechanism, policies and investment strategies for Nghe An high-performance sports to develop according to the planning of the Provincial People's Committee and the Prime Minister.

On this occasion, the Provincial People's Committee awarded Certificates of Merit to the Nghe An Sports Delegation participating in the 8th National Congress in 2018; 81 officials and athletes, including 7 coaches and 1 collective, achieved achievements at the 8th National Sports Congress with a total bonus of nearly 864 million VND./.

Nghe An men's football team won the Silver Medal at the National Sports Festival

(Baonghean.vn) - This evening (December 9) at Hang Day Stadium, Nghe An men's football team had the final match of the National Sports Festival against Hanoi team. Despite their best efforts, coach Dinh Van Dung and his team could not win the final match and had to accept finishing the tournament in 2nd place overall, winning the Silver Medal.
