Grandmother suspected of strangling grandchild to death then drinking pesticide to commit suicide
According to initial investigation by the police, Ms. Xa confessed to using a cake ribbon to strangle her granddaughter to death and then drank pesticide to commit suicide but failed.

On November 28, Lieutenant Colonel Truong Van Sau, head of the Criminal Police Department (PC45) of Tien Giang Provincial Police, said that he had decided to prosecute the case, prosecute the accused and execute a 4-month temporary detention order against Ms. Ly Thi Kim Xa (53 years old, residing in Long Trung commune, Cai Lay district) to investigate the act of "murder".
The victim was identified as Duong Ly Cao Ky (7 years old, residing in Long Trung commune, Cai Lay district - granddaughter of Mrs. Xa) studying in grade 2 at an elementary school in Cai Lay district.
According to the investigation results, at around 6:00 a.m. on November 23, Mr. Ly Do Khue (23 years old) returned home and discovered his mother, Mrs. Xa, lying motionless on the floor.
Checking around, Mr. Khue discovered baby Ky lying nearby but dead. Next to it was an open bottle of pesticide.
After checking and seeing that Mrs. Xa was still alive, Mr. Khue quickly called for help and together with his family, took her to Cai Lay Regional General Hospital for emergency care.
Here, doctors diagnosed Ms. Xa with pesticide poisoning and stage 1 hypertension, so she was actively treated by doctors.
According to the autopsy results, the cause of Ky's death was acute pulmonary edema.
Ms. Xa was treated at Cai Lay Regional General Hospital until she fully recovered and was arrested on the afternoon of November 27.

Before she died, Mrs. Xa wrote a suicide note to her two children and told them to follow her instructions: do not invite monks, do not hold mourning, bury at midnight and bury both grandmother and grandchild in the same coffin...
According to the police, Ms. Xa lives in the same house with her son, Mr. Khue, and her grandson, Ky. Ky's mother works as a factory worker in Ho Chi Minh City and sends money home every month to help Ms. Xa raise her son. Ms. Xa loves her grandson very much because he is obedient and studies well.
Currently, PC45 has transferred Ms. Xa to the provincial police detention center to serve the investigation.
